While COVID-19 raged, we saw story after story come out about the flu being almost entirely wiped out during the usual flu season, which typically rages on from late autumn through winter. In fact, a lot of winter illnesses occurred at much lower rates this past winter, causing some to speculate that COVID cases numbers were being fudged using flu cases as COVID cases.
Having talked to numerous health professionals, it appears that what we likely saw was actually a myriad of health precautions for the novel coronavirus actually suppressing the spread of the usual winter viruses.
Doctors’ offices are seeing cases of the flu, RSV, and other illnesses typically seen in the cooler parts of the year, and the numbers are rising across the country. Since we as a country spent our winter masked, using a ton of hand sanitizer, and basically living our most sanitary lives for fear of the pandemic, the more common illnesses didn’t have a chance to spread as they usually do.
And because people stopped going to doctors’ offices for wellness check-ups during the height of the pandemic, we’re very likely looking at either a stagnant distribution of flu doses or even a dip (the CDC does not have currently have numbers for the 2020-2021 flu vaccine doses). So fewer people are likely vaccinated against the flu this year.
So with a rising number of flu cases as well as other illnesses, doctor’s offices – especially pediatric clinics – are being hit hard with cases, and I’ve even heard reports of some places being understaffed at times because doctors and nurses themselves are now being slammed with these viruses. It’s a bit of a problem, especially after more than a year of dealing with a pandemic.
The good news is that the COVID-19 vaccine appears to be doing more than just fighting the virus. It’s led researchers to push mRNA vaccine research into the fight against other illnesses.
Via The Verge:
The high efficacy of the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines made by Moderna and Pfizer / BioNTech was a major endorsement for this type of vaccine. Now, pharmaceutical companies plan to use this technology to fight other types of infectious diseases, including flu. The flu shots available each year in the United States are usually between 40 and 60 percent effective. The most common shots are made by growing the influenza virus in cells or chicken eggs, and then killing the virus so it’s no longer dangerous. It takes a long time to grow the virus, so companies have to start making the shots around six months ahead of time, based on predictions around which strain of the flu will be circulating that year.
Pharmaceutical companies hope that mRNA-based flu vaccines can be more effective than the traditional shots. Because they’d be faster to make, production wouldn’t have to start so far in advance, and they could theoretically be more closely matched with the type of flu spreading each season.
Moderna is the second groupto start testing its mRNA flu shot in human trials — Sanofi and Translate Bio kicked off a trial this summer. Pfizer and BioNTech have been interested in mRNA flu shots for a few years, and they’re pushing forward with those plans as well.
This is a very good thing in terms of the future of vaccines in the country. One of the things the mRNA vaccines for COVID-19 have shown us is that their efficacy is still really high even against variants of the original virus. So, if the mRNA vaccines are effective than the usual 40-60 percent and better able to fight against mutations of a virus, we could see those virus numbers stay low even when we’re not under a global pandemic.
We’re not going to return to a mask mandate simply because of the flu, and most politicians are now aware that they won’t even be able to get one to stick for COVID again. However, some of the other health precautions we’ve been taking for ourselves (the increased use of hand sanitizer, better practices at washing hands, etc.) will do a lot to mitigate this weird summer flu season.
Meanwhile, the future of vaccinations is incredibly bright, which is definitely something to be celebrated.
D’oh
If anyone buys this crap you’re better off talking to walls.
Surprise! You did not think the endless fear mongering by the democrat party would end, did you?
But wait! There’s more demagoguery!
The last time I had the Flu was in the 80s
WTF? Completely invented story? CDC shows almost zero cases of flu. 2 cases last week. Granted, that’s up to from the previous week... when we had ABSOLUTELY ZERO — NOT A SINGLE CASE — of the flu.
It might be interesting to see what reaction, if any, between the Covid vaccine and the flu vaccine. Would a killed virus in the flu vaccine stimulate the Covid reaction system?
The flu was always there, it was just that they didn’t test for it once the covid hysteria was launched.
A coronavirus is an upper respiratory virus which is annoying but rarely fatal, while the flu is a middle respiratory virus which can easily drop down to the lungs in the form of pneumonia and result in stress to the heart and other systems (which is essentially what most of the deaths came from).
The initial symptoms of a cold and a flu are identical and in the first few months of the panic, anybody with these symptoms was automatically diagnosed, without a test, as having Covid. And then when they did start testing, the tests were so sensitive they picked up any scrap of any virus in the person’s system. Flu, cold, you name it.
Many people who died of a respiratory disease during the hysteria probably actually died of the flu. And even if in some cases covid led to pneumonia without the intervention of the flu, the death rate was still ridiculously low for something claimed to be the scourge of humanity.
Few of the people who died with covid actually died of it, and every day, state health departments slashi their numbers by 20-50%. In fact, abroad one country determined that only 9% of the supposed covid deaths were actually the result of the virus.
The way to stop the flu is to get the media on your side to call it something else.
Yes.
Yup
Its just ridiculous anyone believes them
Because of this and so many other things
This is much like saying if we had a bad outbreak of mosquitos then we would have no problem with ticks, as if they just decided to go away. Once the mosquitos subsided then the ticks could come out of their hidey holes and start biting us again.
Regular Flu wasn’t wiped out for the season. It got redesignated as COVID-19. There is more money in Chinese Flu than in regular flu and the government needed statistics to justify strangling the nation. It is how my wife reacts to ants. They are called Fire Ants, all of them. Fire Ants is the name for the whole genus.
Is it because we took the masks off?
No! Please, no!
Mask up, y’all. No one will ever be ill again if we all have a piece of grandma’s old tablecloth over our faces. The secret is in the ear loops.
Absolute steaming pantload.
This pile says a lot about Red State and none of it good.
Can you elaborate on your comment instead of simply venting.
Basically it reads like a shill for mRNA vaccines replacing traditional vaccines, covid boosters, along with fear mongering.
According to the CDC there isn’t any flu “roaring back” right now.

I shouldn’t need to itemize the faults in this piece. Anyway I’m going to bed, I’ve had more than my ration of covid for the day.
"In 2020, after the global coronavirus pandemic began, influenza viruses mysteriously disappeared from global circulation (see WHO FluNet chart above). Some skeptics suspected that influenza was simply reclassified as covid, while many journalists and ‘fact checkers’ claimed influenza was suppressed by face masks and lockdowns. But influenza has not been reclassified as covid, and influenza viruses have disappeared even in countries without face masks and lockdowns (e.g. Sweden), while they did not disappear during previous flu epidemics and pandemics, despite face masks, school closures, and other measures."
ALTERNATIVE SAFE WAYS TO KEEP YOUR RESISTANCE UP & FIGHT COVID -19. AS WELL AS A HOST OF OTHER INFECTIONS INCLUDING THE FLU.
THIS REGIME WILL “NOT” PREVENT YOU FROM CATCHING THIS CRAZY VIRUS BUT IF YOU DO, IT WILL HELP TO SHAKE IT OFF FAIRLY QUICK, IT WILL ALSO WORK AGAINST OTHER RELATED VIRUSES; NOT ONLY THAT, BUT WILL BENEFITS YOUR HEALTH AS WELL, IF YOU CATCH THIS VIRUS OR NOT. EITHER WAY YOU WIN. ALONG WITH IT YOU WILL HAVE AQUIRED NATURAL IMMUNITY WITOUT ANY SHORT OR LONG TERM ADVERSE SIDE EFFECTS.
There are other ways and means to enhance your resistance against viruses including that by now infamous covid-19 virus aside from taking any of these “Quick” developed vaccines utilizing a messenger RNA. So far science has not evolved far enough yet to be certain how the human body will react many month or years down the road once we start tinkering around with our RNA and how our bodies will react should we encounter mutated strains of similar viruses.
Below is a list of vitamins as well as nutrients SUGGESTED BY A PHYSICIAN to enhance your resistance, they are harmless and even beneficial to your body unless someone goes crazy and over doing it. Even so they will NOT protect you from getting any specific viruses; neither will any of those new “QUICK” developed vaccines. But not only will they make you more resistant but also help you to overcome the effects of such a virus more quickly, should you have bad luck getting it. And once you are over it, your natural immune system will take over and protect you considerably better than any vaccination, this according to a statement by Merck. The CATCH is to have these vitamins/nutrients in your system BEFORE you think you have caught this virus, as time is of essence so your system starts fighting the virus BEFORE it gets a chance to do any damage.
A suggestion to the wise, take some time and read up on each of these suggested components which is freely available on the internet.
Vitamin D — Vitamin D supplements are readily available and one of the least expensive supplements on the market. All things considered, vitamin D optimization is likely the easiest and most beneficial strategy that anyone can do to minimize their risk of COVID-19 and other infections, and can strengthen your immune system in a matter of a few weeks.
N-acetylcysteine (NAC) — NAC is a precursor to reduced glutathione, which appears to play a crucial role in COVID-19. According to one literature analysis,7 glutathione deficiency may actually be associated with COVID-19 severity, leading the author to conclude that NAC may be useful both for its prevention and treatment. For best results should always be taken with two to three times the amount of vitamin C.
Zinc — Zinc plays a very important role in your immune system’s ability to ward off viral infections.
Like vitamin D, zinc helps regulate your immune function8 — and a combination of zinc with a zinc ionophore, like hydroxychloroquine or quercetin, was in 2010 shown to inhibit SARS coronavirus in vitro. In cell culture, it also blocked viral replication within minutes.9 Importantly, zinc deficiency has been shown to impair immune function.
Melatonin — Boosts immune function in a variety of ways and helps quell inflammation. Melatonin may also prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection by recharging glutathione11 and enhancing vitamin D synthesis, among other things.
Vitamin C — A number of studies have shown vitamin C can be very helpful in the treatment of viral illnesses, sepsis and ARDS,12 all of which are applicable to COVID-19. Its basic properties include anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antioxidant, antithrombotic and antiviral activities. At high doses, it actually acts as an antiviral drug, actively inactivating viruses. Vitamin C also works synergistically with quercetin.
Quercetin — Quercetin is the most abundant dietary flavonoid, found enriched in cranberry, onions, blueberry, apples, and tea. As a polyphenol compound, it is ALSO considered a potent iron chelator. A powerful immune booster and broad-spectrum antiviral, quercetin was initially found to provide broad-spectrum protection against SARS coronavirus in the aftermath of the 2003 SARS epidemic,14,15,16 and evidence suggests it may be useful for the prevention and treatment of SARS-CoV-2 as well. Not only that but quercetin also acts as an ionophore for zinc similar to hydroxychloroquine, in a matter of speaking it will unlock the cells to let the zinc in where it can attack the virus . It is also a good pain killer and better for the human body than Aspirin, what helps to subdue arthritis pain. I is good for sinus infection, in other words if you happen to have a runny nose. Past studies have also shown that quercetin showed potent ability against some viruses, such as enterovirus, Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), and the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV).
B vitamins — B vitamins can also influence several COVID-19-specific disease processes, including17 viral replication and invasion, cytokine storm induction, adaptive immunity and hypercoagulability.
SUGGESTED DOSAGE
All components as suggested are individually obtained and freely available and if used with some common sense are not harmful and if anything beneficial to your health. However it is a good idea and highly recommended to read up on each component, as there is plenty of information available on the internet. You may be surprised to find out and learn about the many benefits they provide to your health.
Here is a suggested approximate dosage for each.
Vitamin D 1500 IU
Malatonine 3mg to 6mg suggested about one hour before you go to sleep.
QUERCETIN 500 mg to 1000 mg
NAC 500 mg to 1000 mg
Zinc 50 mg
Vitamin C 1500 mg or MORE !! but always should be to two three times as much as NAC
Vitamin B complex
So far whoever has been taking this regime of supplements and may have had a brush with this virus, shook it off fairly easily and quickly and the most important thing was that in the process such a person also acquired natural immunity. Not only that but at the same time this regime also helps to ease the effects of the regular flu.

Good post.
I have been on that same vitamin regimen since April 2020 along with approx 25 friends/family members. All of us socially active...restaurants, church, weddings, travel, etc. In other words, we’ve not changed our lives the past year. Not a one of us has tested positive and not a one has even had a cold. I’ve added hydroxychloroquine 200mg each Sunday starting about 6 mos ago.

Excellent regimen. Pretty much what I’ve been doing. I have been taking 5000 iu of Vit D3 per day for years and have never been sick (thank you Lord). With the China Virus, I upped it to 10,000 iu. I think zinc and quercetin are the most important.

Been on similar regimens since August of 2020. Attended parties public events even a professional football game. Oh, and I fall in the high-risk category.
Also posted recently about hearing friends and associates who’ve taken the jab complain about the after effects.
Also note that my position would not recommend that I take this experimental vaccine.
So many people working at home, drive thru / take out only at restaurants, custodial staff working around the clock all day every day disinfecting everything with industrial strength disinfectants, and prohibition on anyone entering buildings with even minor cold or flu-like symptoms will do that.
And the flu cases weren’t being reported as COVID as kids get flu but haven’t been particularly good vectors of COVID.
