Sometime after 4:30 PM EDT on June 20, I heard a lot of thunder outside here in Broward County. When I opened my door to check I was somewhat surprised. Not by the rain clouds above but by the fact that the air felt very dry and warm. This is unusual in that we don't normally feel dry air here in South Florida where humid is the norm. Also of interest was that the wind was quite high gusting up to about 40 mph. When warm dry air rushes up against rain clouds the result is a lot of electricity in the air and that is exactly what happened as you can see in this video.
My recordings were between approximately 4:40 PM and 5:00 PM.
They are a wild ride, eh?
Speaking of storms, all of NYS west and north of Albany is under a severe thunderstorm watch.
We’re in NY at the moment and usually lose power. Should be a fun time as the power usually goes out.
Great lightning captures!
They appear to be well North, up near Saranac lake and the Adirondacks.
