On a Southwest flight Sunday from Sacramento to San Diego, an unruly passenger attacked a flight attendant, knocking out two of her teeth and bloodying her face.
Video below:
The police arrested Vyvianna Quinonez, and charged her with battery causing serious bodily injury.
San Diego authorities charged a 28-year-old woman with felony battery after an attack on a Southwest Airlines plane in which a flight attendant lost two teeth and suffered other injuries to her face.
The incident marked an escalation in unruly behavior by airline passengers and led the president of the flight attendants’ union to ask for more federal air marshals on planes.
“Unfortunately, this is just one of many occurrences,” said the union president, Lyn Montgomery. She said there were 477 incidents of “misconduct” by passengers on Southwest planes between April 8 and May 15.
There are allegations that one of the reasons for the incident was yet again a face mask!
The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday that airlines have reported 2,500 incidents of unruly passengers this year, including 1,900 cases in which passengers refused to wear face masks, which are required by federal rule.
The FAA provided those numbers as it announced it was seeking civil penalties totaling $54,500 against five passengers for behavior ranging from refusing to wear a mask to assaulting flight attendants.
Well Mom, you are obviously more accustomed to dealing with ordinary, normal people.
I agree with you the carrier in this instance ought to have the right to ban her for life. But in addition, I propose we put some teeth in this for the rest of the easily-excited among us and add barred from any other airlines until she has posted a appropriately-sized bond.
Maxine Waters must have been using all of the air marshals again. Passengers have to do the job.
That is one of the biggest problems in American society today. Everyone is above the law except the people trying to live by or enforce legal rules or or commonsense behavior standards. Over the past 20 years but especially since covid, our neighborhood and the public parks have had steadily escalating misbehavior, trespassing, vandalism and littering, and our community association dues have quadrupled, in no small part due to these damages.
All those "participation trophy" kids, all grown up now. It doesn't take long to wreck a nation.
I’m so ashamed. It’s not all flight attendants, or even most, but there are some who are Nazis high on their petty power. Apparently you’ve never encountered one of those cretins.
Our women are becoming more mean and violent than our men.
Thy are stealing the title of bullies. Most of the beating up in those restaurant riots are women.
“earn an honest living.”
Enforcing masks is not honest.
Zacly,I worked for TSA at a NE airport back in the beging(6 months really sucked).
SW put on a non stop to Philly for 34 bucks Sunday eve.
These passengers were the same ones that ustah take the bus and train and now upgraded to air travelers due to the cheap rate.
We found more guns, knives and razorblades on these flights the all others combined because these idiots used the same bags as on the buss and train and forgot to remove the weapons.
More often than not we were accused of “planting them.
Low lifes
Apparently you’ve never encountered one of those cretins.
I have and I get where you are coming from.
No, no one should hit a Flight Attendant, but many of them could use some customer service training.
That goes for many airline employees. Since 9/11, they've been able to deal with all customer service issues as if they were terrorist activity.
We probably could fill several books about this misbehavior problem. My observation is that it has been bred by TV shows and movies that show ‘edgy’ characters who are able to bend the rules. How cool is that !
When you see your media favorites ‘flippin off da man’ it leads some folks to want to emulate. This was reprehensible behavior, but in her mind she may have been composing her next FB post, where she ‘put that *itch in her place...’
“”after an attack on a Southwest Airlines plane””
Not a word about the condition the plane is in...hope it’s ok.
last night I heard that the passenger was told to keep her seat belt on until the plane stops. People who actually assault flight crew staff should be charged with a terroristic act, and sentenced accordingly, and put on a no-fly list. Those who refuse to wear a mask if the airline requires it should just be put off the plane, they knew the rules in advance.
And the Left, aided by irresponsible ego-centric politicians, understand that as their worship of George Floyd demonstrates.
I was visiting the Welsh government assembly hall and had to go through metal detectors. I emptied my pockets and stepped forward. A very nice fellow, dressed in a suit, asked me - “Can you manage without your belt?”
It took me a second to realize he was asking in a very polite way for me to take off my belt. Of course! I smiled, thanked him and it’s one of my favorite stories of British manners.
Then, I get back to the old USA and a rather rotund TSA person practically screams at me - “take off your belt!”
“This rise in passenger ire is fueled by mask mandates and airline staff being insistent on them.”
People are upset because of the irrational logic by the airlines. You have to stand 6 feet apart to check in, then on the plane everyone is packed in.
Sorry, but how much did Obama pay you to sign up and join FR?
Everyone is above the law except the people trying to live by or enforce legal rules or or commonsense behavior standards.
You think those enforcing the law don't think they are above the law?
How cute.
Will be flying SW again in about a
week, Manch NH-Pitt. Did same last yr
despite pandemic and there was no problem.
Often it’s two fairly short flights (one
to BWI then switch planes) and I can handle wearing mask for short duration etc
Soon here in MA there will be a relaxation
of mask requirements but things like
visits to doctor or hospital, public
transit etc will still require them.
Amusing last year to be going to rental car agency at Pitt. airport after landing.
Saw Mennonite family—straw hats, simple
clothing etc. Not Amish..and yes they
drive cars as the father was heading to
rent a vehicle himself...
Biden set the rules, not the airline.
The stewardess made first contact.
Are you saying that based on the video?
I’ve never seen that happen on a plane, but I was at a superstore a few years back and a moslem man was chasing after a lady, she was trying to get away and in pure terror and yet people just watched. I had just come in and I am seeing this go on, so naturally I did what any man (not male) would do. I got in his way and then tried to get him to take me on, but alas he wouldn’t. I couldn’t strike first being the white man, that wouldn’t of worked in my favour.
