Racism is defined by Dictionary.com this way.
a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.
Okay, its time for a multiple choice quiz.
a) A politician denying interviews to white reporters.
b) Denying white farmers financial aid but not minority farmers
c) Denying white people spots on police oversight boards
d) Denying financial assistance to poor white families but not minorities
e) Denying white people immediate access to vaccines until minorities are served first
f) Healthcare resources will be allocated on the basis of race
Choose one
And there are the results…
If you chose “none of the above” then, you might be racist as clearly one group of people is being systematically oppressed in the examples shared.
If you chose, “some of the above” then you might have been persuaded that the only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination as proposed by critical race theorist Ibram X. Kendi. This choice suggests that you are on the fence of being a racist but not all the way there.
If you chose “all of the above” then, you are likely not racist at all. You may in fact, judge people as individuals and not by the color of their skin. If so, I commend your enlightened view.
That being said, I could be wrong.
I am open to reason.
Convince me otherwise. (Ideally, without name calling.)
I know I’m not and I don’t need an arbitrary test to prove it.
I am certainly a racisss, the popular media tells me that all day.
HA. Depending on who created it and who takes it, the answer will always be, “Yes.”
This movie came out in 1973.
Regardless, the word racist is a catch all and is used as part of the left's position about everything.
I looked in the mirror this morning — and confirmed that I am still a racist.
how about “I dont care”
I disagree with the definition. Well, maybe. If “racism” is bad, then the initial sentence is unnecessary. Only the latter sentence applies. If “racism” involves any kind of observation that races can be different, then the former sentence does apply.
This is just like the denial that sexes have differences. And if you say they do have differences, you’re sexist.
It’s not if you recognize differences. It’s whether you use that as a cudgel to keep people from doing as they wish.
RE: “racism” involves any kind of observation that races can be different
And why is that a bad thing?
I observe that Africans have more melanin than Europeans. There’s clearly a DIFFERENCE in skin color.
Should I DENY my sense of sight? That’s foolish.
I didn’t say it was bad. I meant that is the more objective definition, noticing differences. God forbid.
“I observe that Africans have more melanin than Europeans.”
What about Charlize Theron? I read that she once tried to answer “African American” to a question on race and they wouldn’t let her, even though she’s from South Africa.
Some might say that African or European heritage should be the deciding factor, but how far back does heritage go?
As far as “melanin”, how much is the deciding factor? What about Egyptians or Tunisians or the Berbers from Northwest Africa? They may have less melanin than someone from farther south in Africa, but may have more than someone from Europe.
The problem with “race” is that “race” is built on a foundation of sand. Someone whose ancestors were from Japan
may be classed as an Asian American; what about someone from Saudi Arabia or India which are also in Asia? Are the two someones of the same race?
Personally, I’m Celtic. Or Saxon. Or other, although I don’t like others too much so maybe I’m racist against them.
