In the world of Highlander films, there can only be one, and Henry Cavill is vying for the title. According to Deadline, the Man of Steel star is in negotiations for one of the lead roles in Lionsgate's Highlander remake, which will be directed by John Wick's Chad Stahelski. Kerry Williamson wrote the script.
Neal H. Moritz and Josh Davis are producing the project. Executive producers will be Amanda Lewis, Patrick Wachsberger, and Gregory Widen. Before his death in February, Peter Davis, the original producer of the first film, was also on board to make.
The original Highlander film, released in 1986, starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, and Clancy Brown as eternal entities on the quest for more strength. The film, with its catchphrase "There can only be one," spawned four sequels and three television shows, including the famous USA series starring Adrian Paul.

Interesting. A reboot I may want to see. Who would be best for the Kurgan role? For Sanchez?
I hope they don’t change the storyline too much.
Ramirez - Darrell Hammond
It would seem that the studio has forgotten the movies money line: “There can be only ONE!”
And how are they going to come close to matching the original’s sound track? Maybe Cardi b and Megan Thee Stallion can turn something out
The Queen soundtrack was awesome.
They won't. It's simply not possible.
The second one was confusing, suddenly the good guy turned into a evil eugenicist and wanted to block out the sun, then there was all kinds of per-disclosure hints about aliens, and multi billionaire kiddie perverts trying to perfect cloning while others want eternal life in an AI matrix
or is that real life in the 2020s?
I would pick Mel Gibson. They could even change the plot a bit and make him another Scotsman, and he could brush off his accent fromBraveheart. For the Kurgan role, the current leading villain would be Dave Bautista come up but there may be more interesting choices out there.
Gee, I can’t wait to see how they gay this up.
I read once that the script for the second movie started with a story that had nothing to do with the Highlander franchise, but somehow the director/producers didn’t mind that there were no aliens in the Highlander universe. I believe that goes on a lot in Hollywood.
Hopefully, this time around, they won’t cast a French guy to play a Scottish role, or a Scot to play a Spanish guy.
The Rock as kurgan
There can be only one ... or, you know, several.
Ramirez -”I’m not Spanish. I’m Egyptian.”
MacLeod -”You said you were from SPAIN! You’re a LIAR!!”
Sounds awesome
More proof that h’wood s bereft of ideas, creativity. And schwarzendoofus wants us to return? For what?
Real question - who will play Achoo?
Chris Lambert's ambiguous accent was perfect for somebody who had lived for centuries in different cultures and countries.
There are simply no current musical acts that will come close to Queen's soundtrack.
Clancy Brown will always be the Kurgan. Others have mentioned Dave Bautista or the Rock. The presence of either of those two will ensure I won't see it. Both are too well known and easily recognized to be a mysterious, unknown terror from across the steppes. The part needs to go to a much lesser known actor.
Connery is irreplaceable, though Gerard Butler could probably pull off a passable Ramirez.
Regardless of who is in it, they will be drowned out by over-wrought CGI, which is where movie makers go when actors can't pull of their parts.
