This is at least the third poll I’ve seen in the last few months suggesting that the people who should be taking the most precautions are taking the least and the people who should be taking the least precautions are taking the most. Gallup published data to that effect in March, then YouGov earlier this month, now CNN.

It’s not just an irony or curiosity of the pandemic, it’s a major messaging problem. Experts like Leana Wen and various righty pundits like me have made the point that Biden and other vaccinated federal officials should take off their masks and relax social distancing in order to incentivize the unvaccinated to get their shots. Show them what you get to do after you’ve been immunized. Show ’em what they’re missing!

But they’re not missing anything. They’re doing all the same stuff that vaccinated people are. In fact, they’re doing more than the vaccinated are. “Get the vaccine and get your life back” is well-meant and would be a winning message in a more rational world, but we don’t live in that world. In the world we live in, the unvaccinated are getting their lives back despite not getting the vaccine....

The only reason why I have not kept up with my regular routine, aside from that fact that my employer changed my job routine for me against my wishes, is that too many people have p'oed me this last year for me to want to be around people. Oh, and there are a lot of stores I don't want to patronize any longer.

These polls would explain the reaction among people at our Zoom meeting today at work. They don't feel ready to go back to the office or have an in-person work meeting, which is fine by me because I don't feel ready to see them in person.

If I don't see them in person at all the rest of this year that will be too soon for me.

This shot is NOT a vaccine, since it does not protect from infection, nor protect from spreading the virus if you are infected.

Ridiculous. I got the vaccine only because I run a volunteer group where my being vaccinated would encourage my volunteers to come back.

But really there’s no way the loonies will ever “feel safe,” and in addition, the government is now basically telling people that the vaccine doesn’t matter, you still have to follow all their bizarre dictates, etc.

I was on a flight today where you were only supposed to take down your mask (in my case, a gaiter usually worn below the nose) when you were actually eating or drinking and pull it up between bites. I didn’t do that, I just left it down. But most people near me did...except for the woman who had two masks and a plastic face shield, who couldn’t even get her hazmat suit down to take a sip of water.

People are insane.
