Loveland, Colorado – Horrifying bodycam video released recently shows two Colorado police officers manhandling a 73-year-old woman with dementia after she tried to shoplift $13 worth of groceries from a Walmart last June.

Karen Garner, 73, only weighs 80 pounds but she was manhandled and body-slammed by police officers, causing her to fracture her elbow and dislocate her arm.

Officers Austin Hopp and Daria Jalali arrested Garner on June 26, 2020 after she walked out of a Walmart with a candy bar, a can of Pepsi and a t-shirt without paying.

Walmart recovered the items and did not lose any money.

Police officer Hopp is seen approaching a visibly confused Garner as she was walking home from Walmart by herself.

Moments later, the officer slams Garner to the ground and cuffs her as she screams, “I’m going home!”

Attorney Sarah Schielke on Monday filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of the Garner family nearly one year after the violent arrest.

Colorado prosecutors opened a criminal investigation into the two officers and their supervisor after video of the arrest went viral on social media and sparked outrage.

New video released by the attorney for Karen Garner’s family shows officers laughing and fist-bumping over video of Garner sitting in her cell crying in pain from her injuries.

‘Ready for the pop?’ Hopp said referring to Garner’s arm dislocating.

When an unnamed officer asked, “What popped?” Hopp replied: “I think it was her shoulder.”

“I can’t believe I threw a 73-year-old on the ground,” Hopp said.

I was taught that you only use enough force to control the situation.

They never even bothered to talk to her and lying about her injuries and not getting her medical attention only made matters worse...police do have to make split second decisions but they never several bad ones...she was a threat to absolutely no one and are probably going to get the department having to settle a 6 figure lawsuit now

It’s like every Gazan that gets shot and killed by the IDF for hanging around the security fence (i.e. doing reconnaissance for Hamas) is always claimed to be “mentally unstable”

My wife works at Target and she tells me about people who load up the shopping cart and run it right out of the store to their car. Employees are told they cannot restrain these thieves. The theft at Target is unbelievable.

They do stuff like that here at building supply places like Lowe's - load the basket up with hundreds of dollars worth of tools, it's "see ya later suckers" as they zip out the door. They won't prosecute so the cops won't even respond. Harbor Freight gets hit hard like that too. Back towards the end of Obozo's 2nd regime loading up baskets full of beef and charging out the doors was an in-thing at the grocery stores. It may become so again.

Liberals, I bet. Cowards>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

We have a glimpse of the new national police that the Alinskyites want, by nationalizing police departments under consent orders from the DOJ civil rights department pursuant to a federal civil rights law suit. This is now happening in Minneapolis. The little lefties in power there are signing up with the feds.

This is the Gestapo police culture the Alinskyites are creating.Watching the video I found it deeply disturbing.

No, she hadn’t been convicted of committing a crime>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Theft is a charge whichi requires that mens rea ( intent) be proven.

If this woman was demented, and it appears she was indeed, she does not have the capacity to form the intent to commit the crime.

A good defense lawyer would easily , successfully plead a not guilty case.

It is the reason she was not charged and released.

A good LEO knows that about mens rea, This officer who arrested the old girl did not seem to recognize that this was an element of the case the prosecutors would not be able to prove. Its a duty of the police officer to investigate on the spot whether the element of mens rea is present.

In the civil rights case filed by the family, the court will see this as one of the damning pieces of evidence which will lead to the personal liability of the officers and the municipality.

The ability of a police officer to question mens rea capacity in a perpetrator is what separates a real American police officer, sworn to uphold the Constitution, from an effing Alinskyite Gestapo officer ( our new Build Back Better police force).

I’m with you man, some of these people here make me sick defending cops no matter what.
They’ll defend them when it’s time to kick down your door to confiscate your AR.

Not even most cops will defend some of this outrageous behavior that we see almost daily now but the boot-lickers will every single time.

200+ years ago there were prisons full of “crazy” people, criminally insane they were called. The names have changed, the approach differs, pots of money are substituted for each other (HHS/medicare to OGA)... and this woman is heading for the “farm” - 3 hots, a cot, big screen, cards, hot tubs... staff of LPN’s etc... big business thrives there, on the “farm”

Yep.

Interesting story, a good friend of mine was a LA Deputy Sherriff for 10 years. He was a training officer for 4 years and then quit because he said the departments mentality had turned from “To Serve and Protect” to “F’em all and let God sort them out”.

You are not paying attention.
1 - The woman was asked for and returned the items before leaving the store.
2 - She is a tiny frail elderly lady who is obviously senile.
3 - She did not resist arrest.
4 - The arresting officers were brutish and contemptuous.
5 - She was not charged with a crime.
6 - She was assaulted with intent to create bodily harm.
7 - Anyone who seeks to justify this brazen assault is vulgar beyond hope.

Well, if you can’t stop a riot, then show you tough you are with a 73 year old woman.

My current co-worker was 17 years in the PD and retired as a Sargeant. The stories I hear are downright shocking.
I never thought a modern-day PD could be like he described but it is way beyond corrupt. Don’t get me wrong, he says that there are good officers but if you don’t get a “savior”, you’re done as an officer. Those in command are always right, no matter what. You beat the hell out of someone in cuffs and the Sargent says it didn’t happen, it didn’t happen.

It’s dowwright terrifying what I’ve heard. They really are gang-like in their operations. I often speak with him about current events concerning police and he will hardly ever defend some of the high profile police incidents.

Also, they call themselves “garbage men” too. They take out the trash.

My mother in law had dementia. I went to a grocery store with her one day and after she filled her cart she started to walk out without paying. I was glad I was with her to herd her back into the check out line. I hadn’t realized just how bad her condition had deteriorated til then.

The heavy hand of the state committing abuse of power and trampling of our God-given rights is not and will never be a conservative value.
Those who defend this are beyond hope like you say and are traitors in my eyes.

On one hand, you have the leftist commies who see unjustified shootings each and every time (see LeBron) no matter how justified, i.e, Ohio incident.

On the “right”, you see some of the boot lickers that justify every single police shooting no matter how horrendous and unjustified.

From my cold dead hands (unless you’re a boot licker, then you can have it...they just want to go home to their families).
