Karen Garner, 73, only weighs 80 pounds but she was manhandled and body-slammed by police officers, causing her to fracture her elbow and dislocate her arm.
Officers Austin Hopp and Daria Jalali arrested Garner on June 26, 2020 after she walked out of a Walmart with a candy bar, a can of Pepsi and a t-shirt without paying.
Walmart recovered the items and did not lose any money.
Police officer Hopp is seen approaching a visibly confused Garner as she was walking home from Walmart by herself.
Moments later, the officer slams Garner to the ground and cuffs her as she screams, “I’m going home!”
VIDEO (disturbing content):
Attorney Sarah Schielke on Monday filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of the Garner family nearly one year after the violent arrest.
Colorado prosecutors opened a criminal investigation into the two officers and their supervisor after video of the arrest went viral on social media and sparked outrage.
New video released by the attorney for Karen Garner’s family shows officers laughing and fist-bumping over video of Garner sitting in her cell crying in pain from her injuries.
‘Ready for the pop?’ Hopp said referring to Garner’s arm dislocating.
When an unnamed officer asked, “What popped?” Hopp replied: “I think it was her shoulder.”
“I can’t believe I threw a 73-year-old on the ground,” Hopp said.

It’s ok, she be White.
I worked retail and let me say the worst shop lifters were women in their 60’s and above...and the same ones were caught over and over again. This woman probably has a house full of merchandise.................and her age shouldn’t excuse her being arrested or taken down if she’s resisting and not co-operating with the police.
In before hummblegunner chimes in defending the cops and claiming the lady got what she deserved.
Those cops should be in jail.
She has dementia.
Evil cops
>> Walmart recovered the items and did not lose any money.
Not yet.
When do the white people get to riot and burn things down even though the offending officer is being held to account?
Which often involves more than forgetting faces.
It doesn’t matter, they escalated the force way to far and too quickly. An elderly lady against these young, strong officers? Completely out of proportion.
But I do agree with you on this suspect profile. When I was in grocery business, Some of the worst were over 50 and many would throw produce on the floor and try to slip on it to sue the store.
I don’t care ...if you’re resisting you’re wrong.
Monty Python
Bravely bold Sir Robin Rode forth from Camelot He was not afraid to die Oh, brave Sir Robin He was not at all afraid To be killed in nasty ways Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin.
Thinking about how brave those cops were.
Imagine a blind person paying with Monopoly dollars refusing to believe he’s not handling real currency.
Do you not see your remark is meaningless?
RE: She has dementia.
If you were a cop, how would you know that?
Sadly there will be many old folks with no one to care for them because of the selfishness of the Baby Boomers who either had no children, or who only had 1.3 children. And to make matters worse, due to changes in our environment many of those kids are on the autistic spectrum, so they will have to be cared for by other families, and there will be no one to take care of grannie or gramps.
I have told my children that it will most likely fall to them to care for many of these orphans. Families who were generous with God will be the ones where Charity will abound, assuming that the State doesn’t kill the “unwanted” folks off first.
“...officers have to make split second decisions...”
Oh, as if the physically and mentally impaired 73 year old woman was a threat. You and people who think like you are the reason cops get away with this crap. Your weak-minded and unquestioning allegiance to authority makes you a sheep and an enemy of liberty and Patriots everywhere.
You remind of all the gutless arrogant weenies I see everyday who are fine with cops committing crimes under the guise or color of law. You’re all good with it because it hasn’t happened to you yet, but as soon as does you scream bloody murder.
As the saying goes, everything is funny (ok) as long as it happens to somebody else.
