Why doesn't the AARP seem to care about volatile insulin prices?
American Thinker ^ | April 24, 2021 | Jonathan Decker

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) recently made waves claiming that pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) are to blame for the volatility of insulin prices. It's a bold statement, to be sure. But here's the thing: the senator is absolutely right — and PolitiFact has confirmed as much.

On January 31, 2021, PolitiFact partnered with The Daily Iowan to release a fact-check on Grassley's statement, ultimately providing the senator with its highest rating of "True" on the organization's Truth-O-Meter™. "With their complicated discount negotiations," PolitiFact concludes, PBMs play a role in driving upward the cost of insulin in America.

One fact that may surprise many is that the net price of insulin has been decreasing for years. But much to the dismay of those who depend on the drug to survive, those negotiated savings are rarely shared directly with patients — who see the list price of the drug climbing. As a result, patients with chronic conditions (like diabetes) are paying higher out-of-pocket costs. And unfortunately, PBMs' business practices only exacerbate the situation....

The AARP, for instance, is the largest special-interest organization in the nation. It claims to represent the concerns of millions of seniors throughout the United States on all issues of health care. Surely, it should care that PBMs and Big Insurance are hosing its members. Yet AARP is silent in the face of this injustice.

The real question isn't whether PBMs bear significant responsibility for higher patient health care costs...Instead, people should be asking: why doesn't the AARP seem to care?

The frustrating answer is that, despite what the organization may claim, AARP doesn't actually represent the interests of its members. Rather, it reflects those of its corporate funders: UnitedHealth Group (UHG) — the nation's largest health care insurance company — and UHG's wholly owned subsidiary, OptumRx. ...

AARP has been pretty irrelevant since the honcho that ran it during the Obamacare fiasco:”AARP and AARP Foundation Submit Amicus Brief in Support of ACA and the Security It Provides Older Americans”

The two Canadian chemists that developed insulation have it to the pharmatidal companies with the understanding it would be provided to diabetics free of cost.
Under Trumps prescription plan cost was coming down but that changed thanks to a dumb as president.

Rigged markets suck. Always did always will. Trump was right we need pricing transparency. Very few restaurants give you a menu without prices on them.

Why are dental implants and nose jobs and other elective surgery prices declining, while routine medical care and insurance premiums and deductibles are climbing? Because the former is a free market, the latter is a closed, rigged market.

Why doesn’t the AARP seem to care about volatile insulin prices?

Because diabetics are a captive audience. They need the insulin. They’re going to pay for it, regardless of how much it costs.

President Trump was so horrible, right? He’s the only willing to challenge the status quo and actually help the people of this country. But no more mean tweets.

They know that you’ll pay for it, even if that means eating cat food to survive.

Don’t forget. On Thursday after Joe’s inauguration, he immediately rescinded Trump’s deal with pharmaceuticals which had lowered insulin prices significantly, thus driving the prices back up to pre-Trump.

I read a while back that, for years the patents on drugs would run out and then a generic could be made and there was nothing the drug companies could do about it.

Then, they discovered some type of “licensing loophole” that basically allowed them to enforce the patent for years, before anyone could make and market the generic.

And then there’s always the heavy hand of Soetero’s government not approving labs to make the generics.

Oklahoma Doctors vs. Obamacare ...... these guys have a pretty good take on how screwed up things are .... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uPdkhMVdMQ&t=88s

“Very few restaurants give you a menu without prices on them.”

If no prices on the menu troubles you then you can’t afford it! First law of dining in Paris.😎

AARP are denizens of the Swamp - they pushed for the adoption of 0bamacare, even though they knew it would harm all its constituents in the end.

Complex question.

A lot of the delivery methods for insulin are still under patents. Also insulin has been declared a biologic drug by the almighty FDA so with that, has a ton of regulations associated with the manufacturing process.

Generic forms of insulin is easier said than done since the cost to get a form of insulin to the market could exceed maybe quarter billion or half-a-billion (With this current grifting Executive Branch).

This is the same AARP that thought raiding Medicare to pay for Obamacare was just fine and dandy.

Nuff said.
