Broadband internet is essential, not a luxury. Thank you @GovHolcomb for prioritizing #Indiana students and schools in your $250M investment so they have equitable access to participate in a meaningful digital learning experience. @ExcelinEd https://t.co/iLlqVzOqXf— Jeb Bush (@JebBush) April 23, 2021

We went to the libraries and we talked to people; broadband internet is not an essential need ...”

You are describing the 90’s with how the internet was used.. Today broadband is essential for many of us to do our jobs.
However, we don’t need a big government solution. Starlink will be available by the end of the year, and should fill in accessibility gaps for most people.
Let the private sector solve the problem.

But how are the contractors and cable companies going to keep feeding from the public trough if we don't invent some busy work for them?

Who cares that (thanks to forward thinking entrepreneurs) hardline delivery of broadband will most likely be obsolete by the time the projects are complete?

By then we'll have other busy work dreamed up for them to do.

$99/month gets quality internet anywhere (thanks SpaceX Starlink).
That’s $3/day, cheaper than food.
Capitalism solved the problem; government is still talking about it.

Kentucky has failed and only the Federal Mommy can save it? Why have states at all?

The Bush family must have a truly formidable schedule problem trying to do a fair sharing of their family’s one remaining IQ point.

No student should have to drive around to find reliable Wi-Fi in order to learn. It’s time to bridge the #digitaldivide and provide all families broadband internet services. https://t.co/tl8cw0PVuC— Jeb Bush (@JebBush) November 17, 2020

My 84 year old mother does not have Internet. She has a landline, a DVD player on the TV, and that’s it. She’s fine.

How long before Elon Musk turns on his satellite network and broadband internet will be available anywhere in the world?

The "rulers" make speeches while the free market zips past them. The rulers only hope is to obstruct the free market so they can profit from the labor of their betters. For example, from Economic Times

The government will ask Elon Musk-led SpaceX Technologies to apply for relevant permits under India's telecom rules before offering its Starlink satellite internet services in the country, a senior official said.

Could any of the politicians of the late 19th century have touched Tesla's or even Edison's intellect?

The reason why those places look and operate like third world nations is not due to the lack of broadband.

It’s entirely because of the character of the people who live there.

There are an awful lot of marginal cities, towns, counties, and even states that seem to operate under the theory that the FedGov should do for them what they are unable to do for themselves.

Surely you jest. Why, I’ll just bet that the fine people of those places will, as soon as broadband is available, will utilize the wealth of information now available to them to do such things as:

1)Learn how to start a business

2)Learn how to improve the operations of their community

3)Improve their health and well-being

4)Learn how to maintain and repair their house and vehicle

Actually, nahh. We all know they’ll just use it to surf porno sites.

Broadband internet is "essential" only to people who think that Facebook and Twitter are essential to controlling what people think.

But there are parts of this country that look like and operate like third world nations, and businesses won’t move there and create jobs unless there is broadband.

There are few places in this world more Third World that cities in the United States. They have broadband but it doesn't change their Third World status.

There are places all over the world that would be great if someone else brought in water, electricity, and broadband internet but if it's not worth it, it's not worth it. That said, Elon Musks's satellite Internet might help.
