1783 was the impetus to establish a fixed seat of government under the exclusive control of Congress. It was important enough a subject to be included in the Constitution and no amount of cynical, ahistorical breast-beating about RAAAACISM can erase it.

The sane and constitutional and fair approach is to return the residential and commercial areas of the district back to Maryland. Republicans need to push this and note that it would be racist for Maryland to refuse the return of their former territory.

Wyoming is 1% Black and has 2 senators
D.C. has 120,000 more people than Wyoming.

Robert, you physical and mental midget, you do realize the the proposed State of Jefferson has more than 3 million people - 1.7 million from California - it has been up for statehood since 1852? It is composed of mostly white conservatives, who have the same complaints as your loudmouthed media activists for DC statehood, and does not require a Constitutional amendment to be created.
DC, if you have read the US Constitution - a highly dubious proposition, was created as a Federal area without control by any political party because that is were laws that govern the Nation are created. To hand DC over to a political party, particularity one bent on destroying the United States as the Democrat Party has become, is the height of criminality and outright stupidity.
The race card was the ONLY card they have. The District of Columbia does not make up much more than a couple townships anywhere else in the United States. The District was SPECIFICALLY created to be the part of no one state, and originally it took territory from two different states, Virginia and Maryland. The Virginia portion was later ceded back and became Arlington County, the second smallest county in the US. With this as precedent, the logical and sensible thing to do would be to REDUCE the District of Columbia to a triangular piece of real estate that encompasses the White House, the Supreme Court, and the grounds surrounding the Capitol. With the District thus redrawn, the remainder of the city of Washington and Anacostia is then ceded back to Maryland, where it becomes, for want of a better name, “District County”.
As an incentive for Maryland to accept the return of this territory, the Federal government would make a payment equal to the amount of taxes paid for real estate in the former confines to the District for the government buildings and appurtenances outside the redrawn and reduced District, for a period of ten years, reducing the payment by 10% each year while the transition is being made. This gives “District County” a voting representation in the House of Representatives, and the benefit of the two Senators already representing Maryland.
The district of Columbia, it may be added, is prohibited from being part of ANY state, so the small enclave remaining would still be apart from the influence of any single state.
One of the first things Trump and McConnel should have done in 3017 was give DC back to Maryland and head this off.

that will not happen from within DC and Fed.gov...however the statehouses can make that happen
But this way there’s a better chance the GOP-e is the permanent minority they want to be.

That means we need to amend the constitution with a 2/3 majority of state legislators approval. Would take decades and it is not in most states interests.

Ultimately we do govern our voting precincts and can choose to exercise that privilege or not.
We also can choose to meet in public -peaceably- and inform our employees at the state and Federal levels of our wishes and expectations
We can peaceably act publicly to hold them accountable
Its just that most of us have expected our elected officials to act in our interests without our oversight
