Buy chip board!!!
Even here in the out of favor midwest, new houses are popping up like dandelions in May. The demand side is strong. They have a hard time finding enough braceros to nail them together.
What is your choice store of value?
I hate that stuff - a cross between a graham cracker and a sponge.
Well, particle board (OSB) isn’t plywood.
Three years ago, we bought a small piece of land in eastern Maine where we wanted to build a summer home. We got quotes back then to build it, but put it off due to other expenses we needed to deal with at the time. That was a bad mistake on our part. I talked to our potential builder last week, and the cost of the house has now more than doubled....yep, at least doubled. There’s no way we’re gonna build it now.
I want to personally “thank” all the democrats, both local and national, for this BS.
I’m glad I don’t live in an area that gets hurricanes. It would cost a fortune to put plywood over the windows of modern homes.
Plywood is up due to the biden ‘peaceful’ rallies in the big
craphole cities.
I did a quick check on homedeport.com. $66.48 for a 4’ x 8’ x 3/4” sheet of birch plywood. Not cheap, but nnowhere near $100. These days, most new houses use more OSB than plywood anyway.
If you have trees you can do your own lumber with an Alaskan sawmill.
Mr. mm needs to look into one. We have the trees.
“On the other hand, the rampant inflation that we are witnessing is here to stay, and it is going to be a major issue in our society from this point forward.”
not necessarily true, just the writer’s opinion.
A builder told me, months ago, that the cost of lumber was skyrocketing, thanks to increased demand for housing. Will this housing bubble burst soon, or will the higher prices be here to stay?
Depends where you live I guess.
With the housing market the way it is and massive supply deficiencies, I don’t think this problem is going to go away.
It’s the sawmills and processing plants. The guys who own timber land say they’ve got a lot of wood they can’t sell because everyone is backed up. Eventually, all this wood will work its way through the system.
Soon the scrapers will be out stealing plywood instead of copper!
Someone explain why given the number of trees downed by landscapers and storms alone, why some clever mechanical engineer has not designed an efficent portable machine to turn these trees into plywood. It can’t be rocket science. There must be some government enviormental regulations that are preventing clever people from meeting the demand.
I have treated plywood shutters that I use over and over again, year after year. I think they cost me less than a hundred bucks....years ago.
