Alan Dershowitz Calls Chauvin Verdict ‘Morally Inexcusable’ — Says Case MUST Be Reversed On Appeal

Posted on 04/20/2021 6:34:36 PM PDT by A.M. Smith

Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax that believes what Derek Chauvin did to George Floyd was morally inexcusable, but also believes the case should be reversed on appeal and explains why:

"Well first, what was done to George Floyd by Officer Chauvin was inexcusable morally. But the verdict is very questionable because of the outside influences from people like Al Sharpton and Maxine Waters. Their threats and intimidation and hanging the ‘Sword of Damocles’ over the jury – basically saying that if you don’t convict on the murder charge, or all the charges, the cities will burn, the country will be destroyed – seeped into the jury room because the judge made a terrible mistake by not sequestering a jury. So the judge himself said that this case may be reversed on appeal and I think it might be reversed on appeal. I think it should be reversed on appeal…."

From what I watched the prosecutions case was not overly strong, often relying Dr. Seuss style “Floyd didn’t die because his heart was too big, he dies because Chauvin heart was too small” emotional lines they used.

For such a major case, and a not so great prosecutor case where the defense poked some very important holes in it, I would certainly have questions I would want clarified.

I was expecting 4-5 days of deliberations.

Prosecution was very theatrical. A lot if witnesses talking about feelings. Did I read that they had a 9 year old witness testify?

We can only hope.

This was the most clown-filled spectacle I’ve witnessed in years.

But the USA of old is fast fading away.

And the death of America can be laid right at the feet of all those “conservatives”, libertarians, and politicians who refused to address so-called “social issues.” This large group of depraved fools actually thought that a Leftist cultural revolution could be fought by only talking about tax policy and unions. Meanwhile, while they were obsessed only with temporal, material issues, the left stole their children right out from under their noses and enlisted them in their “woke” zombie army.

What these idiots failed to grasp (and I really can’t use enough invective to accurately describe them) was that policy is a function of the virtue, or lack thereof, of the people themselves. Develop a society of morally virtuous people, and leftist evil and its policies will not be able to gain a toehold. But shrug and ignore “social issues” (likely because those “conservatives” doing so have their own favorite sins that they wish to justify or at least hide), and you guarantee the destruction of civic virtue, which leads to greater dependence upon the state, and eventually destruction in pursuit of secular, leftist Utopianism.

There is no such thing as a divide between “social issues” and the rest of public policy. Anyone who describes themselves as “socially liberal or moderate”, but “fiscally conservative” is just another part of the problem. Our nation’s founders couldn’t have been clearer about this. They clearly expressed the fact that our system of government could not work unless the nation was populated by moral, religious, virtuous people. It can tolerate a small number of others: atheists, non Judeo-Christians, even anti-American Marxists, but if any of those groups reach critical mass the country is finished, and unfortunately today we are inundated by members of all those groups.

True. The canary in the coal mine was Europe. As Europe de-Christianized, and perversion took over, you see the result. The only ones that kept their religion were the Muslim invaders.

Just like now. The invaders are Muslim, Mexican and Indians. And they DON’T give up their religion. (Luckily Mexicans are Christian)

Theatrical is the perfect word to describe it. For such a serious case, they should have let the evidence lead not the emotions. However, I suspect they used emotions to try to sway the lefties in the jury.

I only watched a few hours of the trial, and probably would have had a good 4 hours of things to discuss, questions to ask, etc. from a half day of watching.

Juror room. “Hell, lets convict him on everything so they will not kill our families and then say we were intimidated so the case gets tossed on appeal. Can I have another cookie. “
