Dr. Fauci Details What You Shouldn't Do Even If Fully Vaccinated

Some states, particularly in the south, have seen their Wuhan coronavirus numbers dropping and have dropped government-mandated restrictions.

We observed how NBC committed an “act our journalism,” asking questions about why some of the states who still had strict restrictions had numbers that were surging while some of the states who had lifted restrictions were still seeing their numbers drop.

The number of folks vaccinated is now over 114 million with at least one shot, with over 68 million being fully vaccinated according to the CDC.

So that sounds like great news toward more opening up, right?

Business Insider ran a piece on ‘What Would Fauci Do’ — and “not so fast,” says Dr. Anthony Fauci, as he described his behavior prior to getting vaccinated and then after when he was fully vaccinated.

Fauci said that prior to getting vaccinated, he got together with his neighbors right next door, but they stayed socially distanced and outdoors, even if it was freezing.

How has he changed that behavior? Now he says since getting vaccinated they gather indoors without masks and have had physical contact. But he says he’s still leery about a lot of other activities.

What about travel?

Fauci said it’s important for all Americans — both vaccinated and unvaccinated — to continue avoiding crowds and socially distancing until we know for sure that vaccinated people don’t spread the virus.

He’s still doing pretty much the same thing.

For now, Fauci’s maintaining most of his pre-vaccine behavior.

That’s not very encouraging when you’re trying to get people vaccinated, the whole point of which is that it gives you some protection. Media may still be pushing the WWFD, but states are vaccinating, dropping mandated restrictions, and opening up, and things are getting better whether some want to keep everyone locked down forever or not.

I’ve received both Moderna vaccine doses. I did so as someone trained in molecular genetics (no, the mRNA vaccines don’t change your damned DNA! That’s horse****).

I also don’t find fault with people unwilling to receive the vaccines. They’re still experimental for crying out loud! Just because I’m comfortable with them doesn’t mean I feel the need to be a moralizing Leftist @$$hole and say everyone should receive them.

That said, I wish people would be more receptive to the mRNA vcaccines (Pfizer and Moderna). Johnson and Johnson worries me a touch for reasons I won’t go into here.

All the above things stated, I have only one sentiment to state regarding Dr. Fauci:

I'm unaware of any flu vaccines that are viral vector vaccines. Flu vaccines are inactivated ("killed influenza"), attenuated ("weakened influenza"), or recombinant (influenza DNA inserted into a virus able to be easily cultured in non-human (in the case of recombinant flu vaccines) organism) vaccines. Viral vector vaccines like the J&J use pathogen DNA/RNA inserted into a modified virus that basically "infects" you directly, as opposed to the three flu vaccine options listed above which are aimed at producing antigens outside the body).

My concern with the Johnson and Johnson vaccine isn't its safety, however. Nor its efficacy, just that of viral vector vaccines in general. There's only something like 5 viruses currently approved as vectors- and there's mounting evidence that the more we use them, the more people gain immunity to the vectors themselves, and therefore the less effective viral vectors as a class become. Personally, I'd like to see viral vectors reserved for potential gene therapies, not vaccinations- they're our most promising delivery method for gene therapy, and by using them for vaccines we may be destroying their future ability to be used for things like treatments for MS, hemophilia, Parkinson's etc. Think of it as being analogous to overuse of antibiotics- the more we overuse the "big-gun" antibiotics, the more we see resistant bacteria. But in this case, the viral vectors are the antibiotics, and humans are the bacteria being treated- we're inadvertantly culturing resistance to viral vectors when there are other viable options (mRNA vaccines show huge potential!) that don't have that negative consequence.

I just considered the above concern to be sufficiently off-topic to keep out of my initial post.
