Citing an “informed source,” Jake Tapper tweeted that “MLB officials made the decision (to move the All Star Game to Denver) because if they didn’t then the decision would be left to individual players, individual All-Stars, some of whom no doubt would have individually boycotted the game themselves.”
In short: There was no way to avoid this becoming political.

Tapper’s “informed source?”
NOTE: Loudmouth Stacy will deny this and CNN will report accordingly
Tapper explained. "So MLB did what they thought was taking one for the team, as it were, trying to protect the individual players and to operate as a cohesive whole, the source tells CNN. Whatever you think of the decision, that was part of the calculation."
Jake, it seems, took one for the team as well.
Maybe we should stop asking sports figures what they think about politics and just let them play the game.
And maybe so-called “news” outlets should just stop advocating for Democrats and their policies and report objectively instead of fomenting discontent and riots.
Or as Derek Hunter put it:
"If only someone in media had told the truth about the law, actually informed the public rather than doing their best to help Democrats by simply spitting out 'Jim Crow 2.0!' then maybe this wouldn't have happened. Maybe someone working for a company headquartered in Atlanta ..."
But no, they have redefined their role thusly:
And with such an awesome responsibility don’t even think about asking them why they don’t hold themselves to the same standards as they do other corporations they shake down for the Dems. Surely you wouldn’t expect THEM to relocate their headquarters outside of Atlanta.
Why good heavens, that would just make it political!

This is one explanation that actually makes sense. I understand MLB has been having a growing problem in recent years with some top players declining to play in the All-Star Game. Some of these guys simply prefer having three days off in the middle of the season and are willing to fabricate a minor injury to stay out of the game. I’m sure MLB doesn’t want to give them one more excuse to boycott the game in Atlanta.
MLB punished the City of Atlanta for a decision outside its control then Gov. Abbott punished the Texas Rangers for a decision outside their control.
I was hoping Augusta National Golf Club (site of this week’s Masters) would cancel MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred’s membership in response but somebody either decided to be an adult or cares more about the dues than the diss. That move would, at least, be appropriate.
As for players / coaches not attending? So what? Players do it all the time, claiming they need to nurse an injury. Nobody is *forced* to play in the All-Star Game. They can just forfeit the game check and stay home which some players do practically every year for non-political reasons.
Most of MLB is whites and Hispanics, not blacks anyway. It’s a presumption that, if played anyway in Atlanta, that black players would choose to walk out and that they would walk out in large enough numbers to be noticeable.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see one major sports league ditch its all-star game entirely in the next few years. My bet is on the NFL to be the first.
Nothing like yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater because you couldn't convince players to attend a meaningless game.
