Could The U.S. Ban Guns? Australia Tried Something Pretty Close.

Australia instituted these strict laws following the April 1996 mass shooting at Port Arthur, in which gunman Martin Bryant took the lives of thirty-five people using an AR-10 semi-automatic rifle. Bryant’s motivation was reportedly based on the failure to buy a bed and breakfast property but also to become “notorious.”

The shooting outraged the nation, and soon Australia introduced comprehensive gun control. It was led by then Australian Prime Minister John Howard, who had only taken office six weeks earlier at the head of a center-right coalition. Howard came to the decision that firearms were simply too easy to obtain and there were just too many of them.

“We have an opportunity in this country not to go down the American path,” Howard announced, and he radically changed Australia’s gun laws. According to supporters of gun control, those efforts rid the country of gun violence on a large scale.

They will try that much is certain. There are three bills up for passing in a government that is now one party rule for at least two years. So yes they will try to ban semi autos for certain as well as standard capacity magazines and private sales. Those are 100% going to be signed into law. They will try for mental health checks, insurance and buybacks those laws will also likely pass and be signed how well they are enforced is the question.

They can ban them. Whether or not millions will comply is another matter altogether.

Your points are all valid, but at the end of the day...if nut-case ‘larry’ wants to go out in the trailer-park and shoot twelve people, with just a single-shot Derringer, he can probably do the job. I don’t think this crowd grasps that or intend to go and make Derringers into forbidden guns or associate them as ‘assault-Derringers’.

Australia does not have a constitution or 2nd amendment.

If the “Supreme” Court can find abortion in the Constitution... if they can find sodomy in the Constitution they can certainly “find” that the 2nd amendment “shall not be infringed” does not mean shall not be infringed! There will be a mass shooting in the near future. Congress is just waiting for the day of the shooting to ram through “legislation” to place on Joseph Stolen’s desk to sign in to law to get the ball rolling. The “Supreme” Court will decimate the 2nd amendment “for the children.”

2nd Amendment stands in their way. Australia doesn’t have one.

They will pass a new “assault” ban, along with intergalactic background checks and magazine limits. Those will be signed this session that’s a certainty. How they enforce it determines how well it is obeyed. If they go full jackboot and make some very public arrests and subsequently destroy the lives of some examples on.national news the rest will look at the gun safe and say is that AR worth my home, my job, my car, my kids braces and soccer practice. Judging by the level of keyboard whining vs actual serving militia members even here in the Bastian of conservatives the vast.majority will make the choice to give into the “buybacks” just like Australia. Blow hards will say they won’t until they see someone just like them in the news in irons being led out by swat. I served in Kosovo Americans are too weak to fight an asymmetrical war and therefore it’s simply not going to happen. Enjoy your.range toys while you can they were never weapons of war because Americans lack the stomachs to do what I have seen in Kosovo and a slew of other African and Asian countries over a decade of boots down time.

Jamaica has very high gun violence numbers and strict gun control. Jamaica is an island. The nearest land mass to Jamaica is Cuba, 90 miles away. I highly doubt the Jamaicans are getting guns from Cuba. Next is Haiti, 118 miles away. Same story.

The will to resist and use the guns is the deterrent, not a piece of parchment

On the House floor next week: H.R.127 - Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act. There is nothing Republicans can do about it. The House has the votes. The Senate has the votes, including votes from RINO Republicans. They care not about the Constitution. They care not for you deplorables. They are safely behind their wall, razor wire with the National Guard to protect them.

Read bill text in the link above. Prepare for resistance.

Charles Whitman did quite a job from the Texas University Tower back in 1966, using a Remington 700 bolt action 6MM rifle.

But if you really want to take out a lot of people use the method Julio Gonzalez did when he burned The Happy Land dance club. One match and a gallon of gasoline.

Rest assured if such massacres happened today there would be an outcry to ban the rifle but not the gasoline.

I am not a criminal. I’m never going to shoot anyone unless justified by the law.

However, these laws will make me a criminal over night without any action from me.

How does that help?

That’s not the point, public safety was and is never the point of disarming a population. Humans are very effective murdering machines. We have the innate ability to to craft ever increasingly effective ways of killing each other. If a person is bent on murder in a mass scale they will succeed. a firearm should be the last choice for a mass casualty event. There is so many more effective means for someone of intelligence. Joe shootem up is a suicidal loon usualy a coward who has a complex and needs validation before checking out. True sociopaths intend to live and keep killing for the sport of it.
