And then of course there is the wisdom from the Director of Homeland Security that attacks on Federal buildings that occur after nightfall are not to be confused with ‘insurrection’... just because they’re completely different things entirely.

Those agents who have been defending the Federal Courthouse in Portland must feel the way the US Army soldiers did who were stationed at Fort Sumpter in Charleston, SC in March 1861. These are very honorable brave men doing their duty with no support or aid from the surrounding hostile population.
About time. The local DA can’t do shit on federal charges and if he tries to interfere, he can be arrested, disbarred, and or jailed (I would prefer all three plus execution but I’m just a softy).

The problem with your historical comparison is that federal soldiers weren't stationed at Fort Sumter. Major Anderson and his men were stationed at Fort Moultrie and he abandoned his post to occupy (without leave or orders) the legal property of the State of South Carolina. Your analogy would make sense if the feds in Portland abandoned the court house to illegally occupy a police station or, more fittingly, a "book depository" with the obvious intention of sniping at civilians. This time, what the feds are doing in Portland is actually justifiable defense of person and property.
