Of course, nothing comes close to the cost of a single shell used for the cannon originally designed for the U.S. Navy’s USS Zumwalt, which came in at an estimated $800,000 each and made the gun too expensive to operate. However, there still some are calibers that are so expensive that shooters may want to think twice before ever squeezing the trigger. When shooting these rounds you can expect that it will be a costly day at the range. (Note: many of the prices below could be much higher due to what seem like regional price increases due to the ammo shortage the U.S. is seeing.)

.22LR
Wow, back in the 90’s I had 7,000 rounds in 12 calibers in my stash. Wonder what’s be worth now?!
Ahhh, the good old days.
Winchester White Box, 100 round Value Pack...$22 + tax at the Wal-Market.
(Also... CCI Mini-Most copper plated round nose, 100 round plastic tray with slider-top...$6.50 to $7.00!)
Husband just bought a box for $50 that cost him $15 last year. I said, “This isn’t ammo. It’s future currency.”
That will be cheap in the future. I wouldn't be surprised to see .22 LR to be over $1 a round, when you can find them. The centerfire ammo will be over $3/round before long. I also think dove season will only last about 15 minutes this year from what I see of shotgun ammo availability. I haven't seen shotshells in months.
Used to get it from Sam...for free!😎
5-10.
“9mm 124gr hardball I bought less than a year ago was $280 for 1K rounds, shipped.”
Where did you get it from? I cannot find 9mm ammo anywhere.
If I recall correctly, 22LR was about a penny per round in the 1980s.
But this was last May. The world has gone nuts since then.
I remember .22 prices at the Western Auto when I was a teen...could buy them freely. Shorts were .35 a box, Longs were .40 a box, and Long Rifle was .50 a box. Short hollow points were .40 and Long Rifle hollow points were .55. Longs only came in solid. I always bought Longs since they fed well in my rifle and were 10 cents cheaper. Killed many squirrels with .22 Longs...I’m not sure they are even made anymore, or have been for years.
I bought 22 longs regularly too. I bought Revelation brand in Western Auto (the store brand) but I also went to Cain-Sloane Department store and in the Green Hills part of Nashville and bought Remington brand. I had a Ruger Super Single Six with interchangeable cylinders and my shooting buddy had a Colt with interchangeable cylinders. We had matches all the time and we were very competitive.
Nowadays, I still like to shoot shorts out of 22 revolvers and can spend hours at the range with targets at 25, 50, and 100 yards and work em well with my Colt Buntline Scout and my Ruger Single Six.
find a couple pop bottles, buy a few .22 and have rabbit for dinner... or a couple less crows to deal with
If it is not specific for the Garand civilian 30’06 will bend the rod. You can get an adjustable gas plug for the M1 and shot the commercial stuff just fine.
Up until the great election theft the most expensive ammo to find for me was:
10MM
41 Magnum
45 Long Colt
380 ACP
Now about everything is outrageous. I have the capability to reload, .45acp, 38/357, 9mm, 40S&W/10mm and 9X18 but looking for more primers and powder.
Gunbroker.com has ammo, including 9mm. Not cheap. Lucky to get it at 0.70/ rd.
Add .22
