Another Deadly Decision by Cuomo: Ventilators
American Greatness ^ | February 16, 2021 | Julie Kelly

...Cuomo for weeks fixated on the need for more ventilators. Claiming a lack of ventilators was his “most significant challenge,” Cuomo’s state health department authorized the conversion of BiPAP machines into ventilators; New York, Cuomo warned on April 2, would run out of the machines within a week. He signed an executive order to seize ventilators from private hospitals and redistribute them to overwhelmed facilities.

“Am I willing to (do this) to save a couple of hundred lives? You’re damn right I am,” Cuomo preened.

But like nearly every decision and prediction he made during the crisis, Cuomo was wrong—and gravely so. At the same time his administration was forcing nursing homes to readmit infected residents with fatal results, the braggadocious executive, along with his equally incompetent “experts,” encouraged heath care providers to intubate COVID-19 sufferers.

It’s possible the early rush to place sick people on ventilators unnecessarily killed thousands of New Yorkers. A study released in late April 2020 showed nearly 90 percent of intubated patients hospitalized in the state’s largest health care system died in the first five weeks of the pandemic; during that same period, at least 4,000 New Yorkers, according to one data source, were put on the breathing machines. (The state’s website, oddly, does not disclose how many New Yorkers were intubated from the start of the pandemic through early May.)....By mid-April, after widespread use of ventilators, a handful of courageous New York health care providers started speaking out; one Brooklyn emergency room doctor posted a video explaining how the practice was killing people or causing lifelong lung damage....

To be fair, I think ventilators were overused in a number of states early on, but I could be wrong.

Perhaps ventilators were pushed more aggressively in NY by the health departments there. If so, questions need to be asked.

But I do remember Cuomo whining about the lack of ventilators.

OH yes, was he whining. Part of his bravado was a pinser move on President Trump. You recall Trump then went all out for ventilators. If only Cuomo would have went for HCQ and taken patients to the ship that President Trump provided. Also remember, they did not even want Samaritan’s Purse to treat patients. It is incompetency to the max fueled by Trump hatred.

Misused, not overused.

Then there's the ship which was contaminated and remained unused and the Javits Center and the pop up hospitals...all wasted and provided by President Trump.

I believe that was the call later...light oxygen not ventilators more helpful.

Speaking of deadly decisions when is someone going to call out all the RedTards that trivialized COVID last year?

The medical profession expected to need ventilators, based on other severe respiratory illnesses.

So unless Cuomo ordered the use of ventilators against medical professional advice, which I don’t think he did, then that’s not his fault.

Seizing ventilators from private hospitals, might have killed some people who needed them. IDK. At the very least, those hospitals should be able to sue NY for compensation. They prepared, he didn’t.

And ventilators are still used for covid today, depending on the severity. I know two people who recently got off of ventilators.

This Cuomo thing is really really bad. He is not a doctor and was making doctor decisions, and his patients died because of his stupid decisions.

He ought to go to prison for life.

We all have to remember the hospital ship sitting totally unused in NY just because President Trump is the one who sent it there.

The Gov is a world class liar and is directly responsible for the unnecessary deaths of several thousand senior citizens.

He wants to bully people and stay out of trouble. He should be charged with mass murder and his brother should be right beside him on conspiracy to commit and an obstruction of justice for telling his lies to cover the whole mess up.

I recall reading that the physicians were being compelled to follow CDC (or was it WHO) guidelines which they felt were too aggressive (specific pressure too high for infected lungs)but were at the time considered standard-of-care.

Now that you mention it, I vaguely remember this too.

But this would put Cuomo in the clear on the ventilator misuse issue—unless for some reason he was pushing the NY Health Director to follow the CDC guidelines more tightly than other governors were pushing for in their states, which I don’t think is the case.

But then, he was looking for a reason to whine about a ventilator shortage and make Trump look bad so he could look good, so....

It was never meant to handle COVID patients. Cuomo complained and Trump made it COVID approved and Cuomo STILL didn’t use it.

Same story at the Javits Center.

Also Cuomo crying about ventilators while Trump had sent them for NY and Cuomo Administration put them in STORAGE in New Jersey.

Andrew Cuomo is a SERIAL KILLER! NOT hyperbole, not a joke, but a real serial killer. He probably killed THOUSANDS and permanently injured many THOUSANDS more.

I remember Cuomo ranting about how he needed 26,000 ventilators, then it was 36,000, then 40,000. He also wanted a hospital ship, the Javits Center converted to a hospital and a field hospital in Central Park. He thousands of ventilators, and the hospitals, but still just sent COVID patients into nursing homes when he could have sent them to the ship or the other emergency hospitals Trump had built for him.
