Lt. Gov. Jon Husted recently revealed -- in answer to a reporter’s question -- that of 1.4 million Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) claims filed in Ohio, more than half had been flagged as potentially fraudulent. Brazen crooks even filed claims – unpaid – in the names of Gov. Mike DeWine, first lady Fran DeWine and Husted.
That’s unacceptable -- not just the fraud, but the silence.
How long were Husted et al. going to sit on this? Until up to 700,000 Ohioans woke up one day to discover that someone else fraudulently spent their PUA dollars -- and that they owed taxes on benefits they never received?
And could some of this relate to Ohio’s own mismanagement of its overwhelmed jobless claims system, mismanagement that’s harmed countless Ohioans who weren’t able to get benefits to which they were entitled, or couldn’t figure out how to dispute state demands for repayment of supposedly fraudulent benefits they felt were rightfully received?
Those problems -- which the state is now proposing to address by bringing in executive overseers from the private sector -- also have been blamed on the state jobless system’s creaking, 17-year-old computer system. Yes, it should have been upgraded long ago, and upgrades are now in the works....

From memory, we lost about $570 million in fraud.
The woman who ran the department basically refused to cooperate with the investigation, which did not start in earnest until AFTER the 2020 election.
Turns out this woman, and her husband, are major Democratic Party donors.
Joe Biden admires her so much he just appointed her to an executive position in the U.S. Department of Labor!
The State of Washington lost hundreds of millions due to fake unemployment claims last year, many from Nigeria. The brain dead idiot who was in charge of that office, Employment Security Department (ESD) Commissioner Suzi LeVine said she’s leaving her state government job at the end of January to take a post with the new Biden administration. Sounds about right.

And now the state of CA is attempting to blame Trump for this.
The state of CA did not even include a brief phone call to the claimants as part of the eligibility criteria.
Not even a 1-minute call to claimants to ensure this would not turn into a fraud free for all.
These lying AH's can't even run UI without epic fraud and chaos.
My theory on large scale financial fails in government is simple. It is easier to steal from the public treasury when the there is chaos then it is when everything works as it suppose to.
Time after time we hear of a government program misplaces or not record the spending of millions of taxpayer money and the excuse is always mistakes were made and we will get to the bottom of it, but they never do. Why? Because the only mistake made is somebody noticed the money was missing.
Few get caught and even fewer ever go to jail.
Why not? She has earned the grifter creds that are a predicate for a position within the Bidet regime.

I don’t understand how there’s so much fraud in these systems. UI claims, at least in Texas, has all my income information, by quarter, in the system when I first applied. They know your employer, and it’s not difficult to cross-reference each UI claim to the employer. PLUS, Any employer that had more than one person furloughed/laid off, filled out a multi-person form that lists each employee thus affected. It should be amazingly SIMPLE to eliminate most of this fraud simply by checking the employee claim against the employer. No investigation, just a cursory check would flag most of these claims during application, before anything was even paid out!

Here in Ohio they didn’t have a system in place for the PUA.
They had to build it, from scratch, in a hurry. Applicants were to self certify as they were/are self-employed.
In my case, yes I have case...the system asked for the 1040 AND the Schedule C. Due to my entity type these items were combined to generate an incorrect base year. Which led to an incorrect unemployment payment amount. Nearly 20% of the folks filing for PUA fell into this trap and need to payback their overpayments to the tune of THOUSANDS of dollars. In my case they didn’t do the redetermination until Dec. 18th, when the error was finally caught. Keep in mind, the PUA window closed a week later. My account clearly shows nearly $7,000 still available to me, but I now have a massive overpayment to deal with and can no longer access funds. Was this fraud or systemic error that the State now wants to call fraud? The CARES 2 act allows for waiver of systemic error and hardship waiver of overpayments.
It is important to keep in mind much of the fraud is coming through the PUA system, which is the self-employed. Errors were bound to happen, but to take 35 weeks to catch it? That’s system failure. In my case I was working and caring for my clients throughout the pandemic as they are essential workers, the little I was making actually overroad the redetermination amount! I would have been better to close my entire business rather than take care of the client base.
Ex. If I made more than $200 per wk, I was ineligible. The initial determination was for double that amount. I reported all my work and who knew walking 3 dogs a day M-F would put me over my base. Well, it did and now I owe nearly all of my PUA back to the state. If I would have closed completely I would have been receiving $3200 per month initially for 16 weeks.
Now I owe nearly all of it back.
My husband had someone open a claim in his name. Can’t ever get anyone on the phone. Sent certified letters, heard nothing yet.
