There are numerous debates that will likely never be resolved – Coke vs. Pepsi, rock vs. country – but when it comes to firearms, the debate goes deeper than mere opinion, especially when it is the AK-47 vs. M16. Both were developed during the Cold War, and while Soviet soldiers and Americans never actually met (fortunately) on the battlefield, the weapons have been used against one another in countless other conflicts.
Unlike ongoing debates over whether a Glock is better than a SIG Sauer or if 9mm is superior to .45 APC, the assault weapon debate is one where soldiers have ample experience.

    Kind of like comparing a Jeep Rubicon to a Chevy Corvette. They both have their relative strengths and shortcomings. While they both have the overarching purpose of getting from Point A to Point B, there are a lot of factors that will determine which will achieve that purpose better.

    When I was in the Marine Corps, late ‘80s, early ‘90s, nobody ever used the term ‘assault rifle’. I used the M16A2 Service Rifle.

    The US military Hates the AK47! An Untrained person can spray out a very deadly round which in some cases a bullet proof vest does not protect. Trained personnel like the AR16, but hate to go up against the AK47. A group of drugged enemy will keep shooting after numerous 5.56 hits. This is why the US Army is looking to used large caliper round.
STOPPING POWER is king!

    Not again....
Different weapons with different objectives
AK = killed
AR = wounded
The theory is that the enemy will be bogged down caring for the wounded.
