Tucker Carlson, Sen. Kennedy Discuss What a 'Cynic Might Say' About National Guard's Continued Presence in DC

After the Capitol riots on January 6th, the National Guard was called in to blanket Washington, D.C. to secure the city in order to protect lawmakers and the incoming Biden-Harris administration in advance of Inauguration Day.

But a week after Joe Biden’s inauguration, the troops are still there – and reportedly will be through at least mid-March.

That has Republican lawmakers demanding answers as to why thousands of National Guard troops are still fortressing the city, and why the city can’t return to some sense of normalcy instead of looking and feeling like a warzone.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) appeared on Tucker Carlson’s program on Fox News last night to discuss the National Guard’s continued presence in D.C. Apparently mindful that his words could be used against him in this toxic political climate where everything a Republican says can be misconstrued as “incitement” or “stoking conspiracy theories”, Kennedy – noting he wasn’t accusing anyone of anything – speculated on what “a cynic might think” about the National Guard being kept in D.C. beyond Inauguration Day and for at least the next two months:

If you ask our Democratic leadership, which is in charge, they don’t tell you, well, we have all this here to keep you safe.

I’m a pretty simple guy, Tucker. I like breakfast food and straight answers. And I’m not accusing anybody of anything. But Washington, D.C. being Washington, D.C., a cynic might think there’s a political angle here. A cynical person might surmise that the Democratic leadership with the news media is trying to send a message to the American people and that message might be the Republicans couldn’t keep you safe, but we, the Democrats can.”

Kennedy then further speculated that the “second message” that the cynic might see is that the “uber-elites” in Washington, D.C. might be trying to send the message that they are “very important people”, “very virtuous”, and that you “need to be very, very afraid of anybody who didn’t vote for Joe Biden and that’s why we need to call in the National Guard.”

Sen. Tom Cotton (AR) is another high-profile Republican who is calling on Democratic leaders to provide an explanation for the National Guard remaining in D.C., as my colleague Brandon Morse reported earlier. In a piece published by Fox News, Cotton stated that “though access to the Capitol will remain limited for a while longer because of the pandemic, it should not become a fortress because of security fears” and said that “with the inauguration behind us, the Capitol should return to normalcy.”

Seems like a lot of military to babysit a bunch of drooling old men that no one is out to get or cares about. Stick them all in that underground bunker obama had built and lock them in till they aren’t scared anymore.

I like Kennedy, but I think he's wrong. The message is, "Trump supporters are a bunch of violent white-supremacists, and - if you disagree - all of this barbed wire and all of these troops prove it."

Anybody thinking the NG will be leaving dc completly needs to wake up. They will be there in some shape, form or fashion for the foreseeable future. Communist democrats private police......why do you think they are in process of removing any Guard members that they even THINK might be conservative?

It is to keep all dissenters- the majority of the US people of any party who disagree with the crap they are edicting for us to both pay and have taken away from us— to keep them complete walled out.

However- subject to the decision of the military to join the People and put these turkeys under arrest, and done so by the good guys and not the ChiCom agents trying to take over the country and suckering in our National Guard. This has occurred to many people— these could easily be turned against the fools that advocated them being there in the first place.

Yup. The whole point is to intimidate anyone from protesting against the Dem junta now occupying DC.

that’s what I’ve heard/read in multiple different areas. If it was Trump, and Biden is not rescinding it, is it because Biden doesn’t have the power to do so, due to the insurrection act? Is there something else going on? If the DNI report said there was foreign interference in our election, which it did, do we think Trump/the military would have just blown that off?

I have one simple rule--never ask liars a question.

Don't do it.

They will feed you lies.

If you need to know the answer, then find another way to get it.

Somebody has to pay them.

State or federal?

And the proof of that is... the attempt by certain “security” divisions, particularly effn bee eyeball to “clear” the military personnel of each unit of their potential to be “counter-democratic” elements. That is the wholly created notion that if they have any politics they don’t like they should be removed from the commands. Truly Gestapo tactics.

Most of the guard unit’s commanders told these secret police to go f themselves— they have NO legal jurisdiction to intervene in military internal security procedures and results which do NOT have to be shared with.... them.

Confirms the intended purpose (of the democrats) in having them wall out the public. It dawned on them that there could be a reverse role-— and it scared the crap out of them. Hoping that this IS the end result, frankly because the other branches of our government have failed the People, who put them there.

SCOTUs, Senate/House count certification non-rejection, and even the prior Executive (though this opinion may change in the future).

I believe the states pay for the National Guard troops for now (salary, room, and board). But eventually the states ask the federal government to reimburse them for the costs. When they do, Republicans better publicly question the Democrats about this cost.

President Biden has the authority, but he has dementia and is not capable of deciding.

Excellent point. Especially people who believe that ... lying for the good of the party is a good ...

The message the Democrats might be trying to send could be “Don’t disagree with the Biden regime or we will shoot you.”

There should have been a press conference by the Chief of The National Guard Bureau explaining everything.

If Congress governed just and honestly they would have no need of troops.

This is to normalize the idea of martial law. Get the people used to taking orders from heavily armed soldiers carrying weapons of war.
