The best defense is a good offense: a role the Heckler & Koch MK23 filled with ease.
The story of the MK23 begins in 1991, with the Offensive Handgun Weapons Program. The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) wanted to find an accurate, reliable sidearm that could provide more stopping power than the newly-adopted Beretta M9 pistol. Though the M9 was not an ineffective sidearm, its 9mm pistol ammunition afforded considerably less stopping power than the M1911A1 it replaced.

If you don’t kill the man, you’ve at least deafened him.
We have a pair of Kimbers and absolutely love them. I understand they had some quality issues in the past but ours have been utterly reliable.
The only ammo they don’t like is lead wadcutters.
But IMO there’s no good reason to put those through a semi auto anyway. Conversely there’s absolutely no reason the US military can’t field a dead solid reliable 1911 platform that eats 230 grain FMJ all day long.
We use hand loaded 200 grain Hornady JHP ammo through ours. Thousands of rounds fired and the only issue has been the occasional FTE usually due to the ammo, not the gun.

I had a hunch.
Thanks for confirmation.
They ain’t cheap. But quality has a price.
Glad we could help.
Good luck.

The person holding it in this picture must be either rather small, or that pistol grip is really large. Just from looking at this photo, I’ll stick to the size of the grip on a 1911
I’m an HnK bigot. They’re the only handguns I own, and I own every handgun caliber HnK makes. Absolutely the best sidearm money can buy.
“The person holding it in this picture must be either rather small, or that pistol grip is really large.”
I think both. Double-stacked 45’s make for large grip.
Don’t know what this dude is talking about. We hated that gun. Way to big and heavy.
Most at that time we’re still holding onto their 1911s or transitioning to the M9. The M92 sucked so it was off to the Sig.
Double-stacked 45’ — I had considered that possibility as the reason for the large grip. But is it as unwieldly at it looks to hold and fire?
“I had considered that possibility as the reason for the large grip.”
In the article. 12 rounds.

I wouldn’t put wadcutters in any autoloader ...
Nor would I. But I wanted a complete shake out of the pistols. We fed them every weight and bullet style we could find. For us the most accurate are the 200 grain Hornady XTP moving right around 850 fps.
Mild recoil, very controllable, and sufficiently accurate for self defense purposes. My wife loves them.

Perhaps I need to shake out my car to see if running 750 hp on 87 octane is ok.
Thanks, I missed that.
HK. Because you suck. And we hate you.
(Excerpt: "And by the way, check out our new HK45. We decided that humans don’t need to release the magazine with their thumbs. If you were a really manly teutonic operator, you would be able to reach the controls. Plus we’ve fired 100,000,000 rounds through one with zero malfunctions, and that was while it was buried in a lake of molten lava, on the moon. If you don’t believe us, it is because you aren’t a real operator." ;>)
