The basic gist of the story is this: Mimi Groves posted a joke video years ago in which she used a racial slur. A half-black classmate of hers, Jimmy Galligan, saw that video and saved it, waiting for a chance to use it against her. Ms. Groves, a cheerleader, got accepted into the UT cheer program and admitted to the university, which was a dream come true for her.
Mr. Galligan, once Ms. Groves had announced her exciting college plans, released the video on every social media site and turned a mistake she made years beforehand into a huge issue. UT kicked Ms. Groves off of the cheerleading time and forced her parents to withdraw her from the school. She now lives at home and attends a community college online.
That is the cost of cancel culture: dreams crushed and a life wrecked.
But no, Galligan had to “cancel” her. She said something which which he disagreed years ago. As a joke. In a video that wasn’t even sent to him. What had happened was a non-issue. At the very most, it was a situation where someone should have approached her and said it was inappropriate to post such things online. That could have turned it into a learning opportunity for everyone involved but kept it off the radar of the social media outrage mobs.
Mr. Galligan didn’t want it to be a learning opportunity, however. He didn’t want to make everyone better off. He wanted to destroy her. He was full of hatred and just wanted to watch a promising life and career go up in flames.

The girl was a Black Lives Matter supporter. He released the video in response to her making a pro-BLM posting, calling her a hypocrite.
My attitude is: “A plague on both their houses”.
The only lesson I got is that proofreading is a dying art. Ugh.
And let nobody ever record you in any way shape or form, and don’t have a different opinion on anything, and keep your head down, and the list goes on.

THAT is what “cancel culture”, and “wokeness” and all the current crap is all about: driving those who can think, reason and discern between intent, satire and innocent misinterpretation.
Tell the bullies just what they can do with their holier than thou bull crap! They talk about how the right side of the political spectrum wants to control everyone else’s life, while doing stuff like this!

Or, rather, stay of social media where your real-life identity may be discoverable. And even then, be careful what you post, since a subpoena can nullify any expectation of anonymity.
In today’s SJ world, probably not. She did use the dreaded, deadly “n” word. Then, after seeing a couple pics of jimmy it became abundantly clear what the impetus was. He/she/it is jealous of her looks and abilities. ‘It’ is a sorry excuse and it would be awful if something untoward happened. You know doxxed or something.
He's made himself famous as a drama queen who will not hesitate to destroy even a fellow Leftist (she was a BLM supporter) over any slight, not even a slight made against him personally.
He should prepare to be shunned. I can't see anybody wanting to hire him, either.
Some day, Slippin’ Jimmy will screw up, and a close friend, so he thinks, will expose his egregious error.
The University of Tennessee is to blame on this one.
It makes little and inadequate people feel big and important. What is worse is the evil creatures at UT that gave in to it. THEY are even worse than the small vindictive person who started it, they are the adults and should have stopped it.
They secretly know they too are small and inadequate, that’s why they submissively roll over onto their backs and pee into the air.
I had expect by now to be reading an interview with “Frankenstein’s” White Father. What’s his take on this?
Most likely his Dad, being married to a Black woman, is careful not to criticize his toxic son. That’s how this whole professional victim thing got started in the first place. He, should apologize to the girl’s family, for raising someone with such a mean and hateful attitude.
Jimmy, can you help us understand what pronouns we should use when referring to you, because it sure isn’t obvious.
So the woke BLM supporting cute little white (I assume) cheerleader took to social media announcing her dream come true and then got called out by a radical minority who held a grudge since high school.
I cannot seem to work up any outrage. Play social media games earn social media prizes.
