Across the country, there is general consensus that 2020 has been the "worst year ever." According to studies, 82% of Americans agree that 2020 has been a terrible year of unprecedented suffering and misery. Experts confirmed that 2020 was indeed the worst year, provided you have never lived in virtually any other time period in all of human history.
"We noticed that most of the respondents who called 2020 the worst year also enjoyed delicious food being delivered to them for 8 months while they sat on their couches with the air conditioning on and binge-watched shows the whole time," said one researcher.
"While we understand it hasn't been easy, we also found very few instances of Viking raids, Black Plague, famine, world war, using rotary telephones, needing to look things up in a physical dictionary, slavery, people being burned at the stake, walking miles to school, living in caves, sleeping on the ground, ice ages, Nazi holocausts, civil war, infant mortality, global floods, ethnic cleansing, using leaves as toilet paper, using leeches as medicine, using wooden mallets as an anesthetic, fighting wild saber-tooth tigers, cannibalism, occupation by the Persian Empire... what was I talking about again? Oh yeah-- most people in 2020 never experienced any of those things, so comparatively speaking it's been a pretty decent year!"

I'll take 1941. Yes, we had a Democrat president and California had a left-wing Democrat governor, but he was Peter Pan compared to the fascist tyrant who sits in the statehouse today. And the music in 1941 was far, far better.
I was also born in 1951 and my Dad (WW II) would have been 102. (1918)
Happy New Year from one soon to be 70 year old to another.
Good Point.
I still had indoor plumbing in 2020.
Ginger is still with us!
Living in North America in 10,800 BC was very lively with 100 years of constant comet debris falling creating firestorms burning off all vegetation and huge shards of ice kicked up into the atmosphere by the mile wide meteors hitting the Ice Cap and shattering sending razor sharp shards falling in all directions.
Oh, but that last month defined the next four years!
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
It was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,
we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,
we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way
—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.
Hopefully you all went to school when English departments still taught literature.....
Somehow 2020 was my Best year eva! Trump !!
I lived through both and believe me, 2020 has been a breeze. We're the most spoiled bunch of navel-gazing wusses in history. Even my memories of WWII, smallpox, polio and "root-hog-or-die" Depression years were nothing compared to the Black Death, the depredations of Genghis Khan, the plight of Neanderthals who somehow survived the last Ice Age and so on and on. We should be thankful that we got off easy this time.
During the black plague there were still those immune and partying and celebrating life there was no tomorrow. That is what is missing this plague.
Oh yes....
Oops, I thought that was Foghorn Leghorn.
Great year for tyrants though.
1940 in Britain would have been worse.
Tyrants are on very thin ice right now.
I don’t think it’s missing this time. Maybe they aren’t immune but our privileged elites enjoy hairdos in “closed” salons in San Franciso; multi-thousand $$ meals at he French Laundry in Napa CA, dine indoors when they’ve closed indoor dining and on and on. Different rules for different folks.
1968 was worse by far.
Pandemic, Vietnam War, Assassinations, Race Riots....
That is because the black plague was real.
I am sure troopers who survive combat have a different view of 2020.
COVID-19 was not that bad. Restrictions by our government, now that sucked. Can’t even go to a ball game and drink a beer and eat a hot dog.
