A new strain of coronavirus detected in the United Kingdom is not more threatening than the version that currently predominates throughout the world, the White House COVID testing chief said.
Admiral Brett Giroir, an M.D. and assistant health secretary, made his comments about the more infectious strain today on "Fox News Sunday."
"We don’t know if it’s here or not, there’s certainly a possibility that it’s here or not," Giroir said while appearing on the show. "It is not any more serious than the normal stains of COVID. You can still protect yourself by the mitigation measures … we have no evidence to suggest, nor do we believe that the vaccine would not be effective."...

That has been the case all through 2020 and with this virus!
But didn’t the British scientists tell us that it is 70% more infectious than the common version?
If so, and it’s just about as serious as the common one, then it is STILL bad new. I’d rather have a WEAKER strain even if more infectious.
Mutations are usually weaker. We still have the Spanish Flu....but it’s in a much weakened state.
It is no worse than influenza A or B in death rate and case numbers.
Masks, face shields and bandanas are worthless for flu and covid.
Flu cases are now being added into covid count.
No replication is ever perfect, thus “mutation”. It is exceedingly rare for a replication mistake to be in the viruses favor, yet most beat the fear drum in hopes no one will crack a textbook and learn for themselves.
Good questions, but the clincher for me was, “”We don’t know if it’s here or not, there’s certainly a possibility that it’s here or not,...”
Most of them weaken with mutations so I’m guessing that if they can’t verify the “reports” that a more infectious version is out there, they need to brew another cup of tea and check the leaves again - that’s where the “science” seems to be going with Covid.
Well, the new strain is already in Canada. From the WaPo:
“The variant has also been detected in France, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy.
In Canada, Ontario’s chief medical officer announced Saturday that they had confirmed two cases, the first detection of the variant in North America. The patient, a couple, had no known travel history, meaning it was probably a case of community spread.”

Yup. Mutations happen to keep the virus going. If a virus kills its host it cannot survive. Even viruses want to exist

In medical school during an endocrinology lecture I remember the speaker stating that adipose tissue basically functions as an endocrine organ. Via multiple signals the adipocytes promoted an inflammatory state. This is how I have reasoned the increase in mortality in obese patients.
