Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell now finds himself in the hot seat as Democrats begin rallying behind President Donald Trump's efforts to more than double the direct payment checks Congress secured in the just-passed coronavirus relief bill, leaving the fate of the aid package in limbo.
During remarks Tuesday night, Trump signaled he would not sign the bill, which was passed with overwhelming support late Monday, unless Congress included $2,000 direct checks to Americans, a proposal that flies in the face of the demands made by many Senate Republicans, some of whom had a tough time swallowing the $600 checks currently in the bill.
The aid package is tied to a large government funding bill that must be passed by Monday night. Yet as Congress stares down a looming government shutdown if Trump does not sign the bill, McConnell has so far been silent.

Well he signed off on those expenditures for each of the last three years and didn’t say a word, but now that he got his head handed to him in the election he seems to be having a bit of a snit. Too late to help him though. He’s out of power and will die of old age, a bitter frustrated man.
His OWN BUDGET had the exact same line item in it for Pakistan. The one he started the year with. He’s not. Well, he’s not smart.
It's a whole lot of money being given out to everyone on the planet ... including us.
The only problem is ...
We're getting about half of one percent
You are right about babble-on’s post.
Plus they don’t intend to drop the rest of the porkulus bill as Trump stipulated I’m sure. They will keep all the grift and graft to their pet organizations and foreign initiatives.
If they really want to help US citizens, they should scrap that $900 billion bill and give every US citizen a million dollars. Everybody will be wealthy and we’ll only spend $380 million. That will save us $520 billion. Let the rest of the world pay their own damn bills.

I’m sure you’re all about “helping him”. If we’re lucky, Trump will make just enough RINOs look bad that they can be replaced in their next primary. Surely it’s not the deficit spending that’s got your thong in a wad. You were ready to send money to some foreign land for “gender education” or some such thing.
I’d like to see a veto of the 1st bill. Then if anything a $2K check with no add ons for foreigners. that’s crazy What ever happened to conservatives being fiscally conservative?
I hate all these freebees. I accept mine because it’s only a return on my taxes paid or a tax cut per say. Otherwise it’s freebees everywhere.
You’re certainly living up to your namesake. Blah blah blah. Trump bad. Blah blah blah. Now GFYS. You have nothing to offer to the conversation. 🤣
arent we in some kind of pocket veto time frame?
Your hopes will be dashed.
“...think this through. AOC, pelosi, and schumer are all happy about this.”
There was a tense and very (outwardly) quiet 6 hours or so before Chuck and Nan decided to embrace that which they could not fight against and win. It was a very good play by Trump.
I just saw Cruz on my local houston news. Yes, he voted against this bill for all the dem goodies and little for the people. If free money is to be given give it only to the citizens. I’d prefer just open everything up.
That’ll teach the back stabbing bassturtle!
How can ABC spin this? Do they not realize the conservative base hates the GOP? You can sense the frustration oozing from the writers, because Trump doesn’t fit into their neat narratives.
How about you people just refund all of us back our 2019 income taxes? It’s our money anyway and taxpayers deserve relief.
That’ll stimulate something. And it sure as Hell won’t be going to a bunch of foreigners and Broadway musicals. People will pay their bills and buy stuff with it. Whether it’s stuff they need or stuff they want doesn’t matter; stuff being bought makes room for more stuff to get made, and that creates jobs and growth. That will help the people who don’t pay taxes. Or at least the ones who want to work for a living. I don’t care about helping freeloaders and illegals.
i like that
What a ridiculous comment.
GOP the useless party...Time for a new party...at the federal level
McConnell plans to reconvene 29 Dec. to thwart a Trump pocket veto.
