Ceremonies honoring the Wright brothers’ first flight will be held today for the first time ever as a joint ceremony between Ohio and North Carolina.
Dayton’s Orville and Wilbur Wright sent a telegram from Kitty Hawk, North Carolina Dec. 17, 1903, writing of their success that day. In celebration of First Flight, various events and programming Thursday will be broadcast via livestream throughout the day from Ohio’s National Aviation Heritage Area, Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and North Carolina’s First Flight Society, First Flight Foundation, Wright Brothers National Memorial and Outer Banks Forever....

Celebrating two white guys.....how racist!!!
I live in NC, but I have to say that the biggest and best contribution made by the locals was to not burn the Wright brothers at the stake for committing unnatural acts. The fact that the first flight occurred in the Outer Banks is an accident of geography and meteorology and not the result of anything any person here did.
I was born & raised in Dayton and, as a young whippersnapper, ran around near their original bike shop.
As a kid, I never realized how important their invention was and it would become a stepping stone to space flight.
The Wright Brothers first real test flight was in Dayton in an open field in the “Burkhardt” area near their bike shop.
My Father was born in 1910. I had several uncles born in 1900 and prior.
It astonished me that we went from first flight to landing on the moon in their lifetimes.
It is all lies! The first powered flight was accomplished by a black transgender with dyslexia.
It astonished me that we went from first flight to landing on the moon in their lifetimes.
~~~
In half of that. We went from first flight to landing on the moon in a couple of generations. In the generations since we have basically only made flight more efficient, and set on about automating and computerizing almost everything. The only last frontier that has not been completely (re)programmed is the human brain, but....
Indeed, a celebration of Wright supremacy!
OHIO PING!
Please let me know if you want on or off the Ohio Ping list.
Orville and Wilbur day.
You do know Japan is in the midst of analyzing samples they got back from a freaking COMET right? It’s amazing what we can accomplish, and equally amazing how stupid the human race can be at the same time :(
How many feet must one traverse in the air in order to qualify as being “in flight?” What if the Wright Brother’s first flight was one foot shorter? Two? A dozen? Is it proper to say that any object countering the force of earth’s gravity may be considered as “in flight? Inquiring minds and all that.I’ve wondered about these things sibce first grade. LOL.
If you think about it, we were not the first species to learn fly, we were one of the last.
Good one!!! LOL
“The only last frontier that has not been completely (re)programmed is the human brain, but....”
That’s why I do cognitive neuroscience research. Much better than crossword puzzles.
You know the democrats will erase their flight from history.
“Celebrating two white guys.....how racist!!!”
Exactly. The cancel culture has not reached them yet.
