Crossing the Rubicon: Alea Iacta Est

Take the high road, take the low
Take any one you're on

I poured the cup, I passed it along

And I crossed the Rubicon

It’s probably nothing really, just a roar from the belly of the beast.

Or, alternatively, it may be the metaphorical crossing of the Rubicon - a move you may recall that started a 5 year civil war and effectively marked the end of the Roman Republic and the beginning of the Roman Empire. I wouldn’t read too much into it though as it is but a metaphor. And a republic that permits electoral fraud and cheating in order win an election and seize power has lost its way as a republic anyway.

I don’t portend to know what any of this means, nobody caught in the middle of historic times ever does for certain.

So instead I offer you a little musical interlude from an amazing American wordsmith.

I feel the holy spirit inside
See the light that freedom gives

I believe it's in the reach of

Every man who lives

Keep as far away as possible

It's darkest 'fore the dawn (oh, Lord)

I turned the key, I broke it off

And I crossed the Rubicon

Mornin' baby, I used to look my mind
I truly believe that you are

Couldn't be anybody else but you

Who's come with me this far

The killing frost is on the ground

And the autumn leaves are gone

I lit the torch, I looked to the east

And I crossed the Rubicon

Dylan, still relevant, after all these years: who’d have thunk. (Still can’t sing though)

Since Dylan converted to Christianity he has been even more relevant.

Didn’t he shrug that off and return to Judaism.

Only 11/13 states in 1861. 18 so far.

World War one (or the Great War) began with a minor action and got out of control because the major powers did not fully understand what they were getting into. No one on the day the Arch Duke was assassinated thought it would lead to war.

The Democrats are being myopic in their zeal to gain power. They live within their own bubble and do not have a clue what middle America thinks of them, their action and their policies.

They celebrate the fact they have full control of most news media, and that social media companies like YouTube, Goggle, Twitter and Facebook are doing the heavy lifting for them by censoring dissent.

What they are missing is that they have effectively disabled the social safety valve that free speech and free assembly and free elections provide while at the same time keeping the heat on the pressure cooker.

Add to it the destruction the Democrat governors have done to individuals and small business by issuing draconian rules and regulations and then arbitrarily changing them on nothing more then a whim...

Well, history has shown that citizens can put up with a lot of hardships but there comes a point they say enough is enough and the citizens revolt.

Well said.

I think there are a couple lessons from this (if it goes badly).

1) If Biden becomes President, Democrats will be empowered to cheat as much as they like in all future elections. What possible grounds could ever be found to challenge them? We will have set a precedent that cheating is perfectly fine, as long as you cheat big enough to win.

2) If Biden becomes president, and if the people do not openly revolt, then what possible reason will we have in the future to ever throw off our chains? Elections don’t matter. Courts don’t matter. The consent of the governed doesn’t matter. We will have accepted the idea that we are peasants, and lords rule over us, and we are (apparently) fine with that.

This is the inflection point. The path of the future is being decided right here, right now. The Supreme Court has a responsibility to see that, and to weigh its role in our system of government to protect that very system.

I agree with you as to the significance of the moment, and implications for the future.

Still praying.

I disagree. The Democrats have crossed the Rubicon and intend on destroying the Republic forever. Instead of a ‘Roman Empire’, their intention is to replace the Republic with a Socialist, Global Empire.

I predict that the democrats, media, and big tech will be screaming for a ‘do-over’ election in two weeks. Just a bunch !
