This factoid about the L0hengrin character is otherwise trivial to the story. It has no bearing on the plot, and feels tacked on solely for the benefit of the author’s desire to appease the reader. In fact, L0hengrin is quickly sidelined in the story, only popping up a few times, clearly only serving the purpose of assuring the reader that the white heterosexual cis-gendered male author is sufficiently woke enough to be a part of the club.

Ready Player Two: A Painfully Woke and Unnecessary Sequel
https://pjmedia.com/culture/matt-margolis/2020/11/25/ready-player-two-a-painfully-woke-and-unnecessary-sequel-n1172228
From my reading of the book, painful describes many aspects of it.
I wouldn’t have expected anything else. I had a friend who made me borrow the first book because he loved it so much and I found it underwhelming.
The first book and the movie based on it are decent. I think the success of the movie is what led to the sequel novel.

and a repost of me comment:
I think all movies should “wake up”
some of my favorites
“The Next Karate Kid”
“Ghostbusters” (2016)
“Overboard” (2018)
“Ocean’s 8” (2018)
“What Wen Want”
“American Pie: Girls’ Rules” (2020)
And TV too
we should have a female Macguyver, the recent reboot had a woke guy wearing lipstick but that is not close enough.
another even more woke Knight Rider with Mikala Knight as the female with dreds, but she must also drive a Dodge Charger
Dr Who, the doctor must be a Woman..
Indeed, though there was a good story buried beneath the woke crap, the sequel pales to this review in entertainment value.
The first had an interesting premise but was weak. The second stunk on ice.
Which is what generally happens when you try to mix social commentary with your stories. There are a very few authors who can do this and still have an interesting story.
I just watched the first one this weekend.
I pretty much despise CGI movies and never make it through one, but I actually enjoyed it.
But it does not need a sequel, so a hard “no” on this one.
I’m listening to the audible version of this book right now and the amount (unnecessary) of woke-ness is painful. I don’t listen to abridged books, but if someone told me the abridged version skipped all the superfluous wokism I would switch right now.
A friend said years ago, most authors have one good book in them.
Or the new Bond.
“My name is Pat, just Pat”
(old SNL)
“t gets worse. Despite Ready Player Two being packed with ‘80s pop culture references like the previous novel, this time Cline felt it necessary to bemoan certain aspects of the decade he so lovingly paid tribute to. The characters lament the “lily-white landscape” on the virtual planet of Shermer, Ill., (which houses recreations of John Hughes movies) and note the “serious diversity problem” “like the whole of ‘80s cinema.” The homophobic graffiti on Bender’s locker in The Breakfast Club also gets called out.”
Don’t you just love it when they dump on better and more beloved & memorable movies than they can even so much as dream of?
*dream of making?
My Bad, just realised it was a new book not an actual movie sequel.
Ready Player One was a fun book that i really enjoyed reading.
Thought that the movie was a big disappointment after reading the book.
Thanks for the heads up on this sequel it saves me from both wasting time and money.
