History: Most FBI background checks ever, 434M guns in America

America’s recent election and the COVID-19 pandemic fueled a gun-buying binge that continued in November, making 2020 into the top year ever for firearms sales — by a country mile.

The FBI reported today that it recorded a 42% surge in background checks for firearms in November. Last month, it conducted 3.6 million. In November 2019, it was 2.5 million.

And already this year, the FBI has recorded 35.7 million background checks. In all of record-setting 2019, there were 28.3 million checks.

That means 2020 background checks for guns are already 25% over last year, and there is still a month to go. What’s more, Decembers have historically been the biggest month for firearms sales.

Gun industry officials said this December will be even better for sales due to concerns that Democrat Joe Biden will attempt to impose drastic gun control measures and empower the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to begin shutting down gun assembly lines.

I sell guns part time.
Our store had it’s best year ever.
65% have been first time buyers since the rioting started in June.

Impulse gun buyers have a problem. No ammo. I was tempted recently to warn a man buying an AR to check ammo availability first. He obviously knew nothing about the weapon so he was impulse buying. Friends at hunt club call when they find ammo, went to one store 50 miles away to get ammo. I decided not to warn the guy, owner has to sell to stay in business and since he obviously knew nothing about an AR platform, if he found ammo he may be dangerous.😀

“I decided not to warn the guy, owner has to sell to stay in business”

Besides, I bet a bunch of those guns will hit the secondary market in a couple of years and we’ll be able to add to our collection cheap.

If Biden gets in, you can expect this surge to surge.

Glad to see this. Now, remind me again how Socialist Democrats, Never-Trumpers and RINOs think we’ll just roll over and give up our guns?

*SNORT*

Does Slow Joe have ANY plans for getting ILLEGAL guns out of the hands of criminals, I wonder?

LOL! LOL! LOL! I crack myself UP! ;)

Looks like the SWAT teams will have exciting times over the next few decades...

Before Harris-pelousy leave the WH in 12 years, I expect to see the death penalty imposed for gun ownership...

The sheeple will continue to peacefully graze...

If they want to keep their new firearms, they should join the NRA and tell their families and friends to vote Republican in the 2022 midterm elections.

Our gun shop makes sure that everyone who purchases a firearm has ammo. It pisses some off that we won’t sell the ammo we have without a firearm purchase, but that is tough.

I read an article a couple of years ago that made a very convincing case that there were over 600,000,000 guns in the US at that time.

I think that is the right move. Anyone purchasing a gun for self defense needs the ammo. Most people looking to buy just ammo are either stocking up or foolishly went out and blew off a few hundred rounds for fun. The store I was at was not a sportsman store, they sell weapons and ammo in a department. For ammo they had only 20/12 gauge buck and bird shot. They could have been honest and recommend the buyer purchase a 12 gauge, because that is about all that is left in most stores. At least they could have ammo to FAM fire the weapon.

I hunt and shoot for fun. I have all the ammo I need. Whatever ammo I buy now is to stock up. Funny thing is I do see .22 long rifle more often then not. This time around nobody seems interested in the .22 rifles. Daughter was on a shooting team back when every one was buying up the .22 long rifle ammo. So she would have ammo for competition I brought around 4000, rounds. She did not need nearly that much between practice and competition. So if I feel like target shooting, I can take the .22s out and have fun for a month of Sundays.

Easily 600,000,000. The FBI has no idea how many weapons are held by legal gun owners let alone illegal gun owners. Most hunters I know have at least three rifles and a sidearm. Where I come from, it is not uncommon to have family rifles going back two generations and a safe full of guns.

I have assumed the accepted estimate numbers were way off since I read that article.
