McConnell Vows to Continue Confirming Judges: 'We're Going to Run Through the Tape'
Red State.com ^ | November 24, 2020 | Mike Miller

As we recall, following the death of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in September, President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell ignored protestations from Democrats and the liberal media — no; in spite of histrionic Democrats and the hysterical barking hyenas of the liberal media — and successfully powered through the nomination and confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to fill Ginsburg’s seat.

Mission accomplished. Expeditiously so.

Then in late October, as reported by the Daily Wire, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt interviewed McConnell about filling Barrett’s vacated seat on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, along with other vacant seats — present and future — throughout the post-election lame-duck term. Hewitt asked:

“There is now a vacancy on the Seventh Circuit for which there is a nominee, and the death of a First Circuit judge has opened up a vacancy on that circuit. Certainly, that was not expected and is to be regretted. But do you expect the Senate to fill those two positions in the lame-duck term after the election?”

McConnell promptly went bottom-line with his response.

“Well, we’re going to run through the tape. We go through the end of the year, and so does the president. We’re going to fill the Seventh Circuit. And I’m hoping we have time to fill the First Circuit as well. And we are, by the way, confirming a district judge as soon as we get back after the election, and we’re going to clean the plate, clean all the district judges off as well.

we’re going to clean the plate, clean all the district judges off as well

“[Mitch McConnell’s] Senate has confirmed six district court nominees since the election … The move broke a ‘123-year tradition against voting on judicial nominees of an outgoing president of the defeated party during a lame-duck session.’”

Bless their hypocritical little hearts.

McConnell then warned — as have Donald Trump, Lindsey Graham, conservative pundits, and everyone else with a modicum amount of intelligence — about what will likely happen if the Democrats, enraged by the Barrett appointment, recapture the Senate, which will be determined by the January 5 runoff election in Georgia; assuming Biden becomes president.

“This Supreme Court-packing issue has been around all year long, and of course, there would be no oversight at all, as you suggest, of any scandals or anything that might reflect badly on the Democratic administration if there is a Democratic majority. Now the solution to this is 51 Republican senators. The one thing the majority leader can do that others cannot do in the Senate is to decide what we’re going to do, to set the agenda.”

After referencing his 2016 decision not to proceed with Barack Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to fill the seat left vacant by Antonin Scalia — which not only sent Chuck Schumer and the Democrats into apoplectic meltdown; ACB’s appointment to the Court sent them into the histrionic stratosphere — McConnell said that if Schumer becomes majority leader and this in charge of setting the agenda, we can expect the worst.

“My biggest decision on agenda-setting, obviously, was the decision not to fill the Scalia vacancy. But it applies to a whole lot of other things as well. If Chuck Schumer is setting the agenda in the United States Senate, you can predict the worst. We will go hard left. The country will not look the same after two years of that as it does today.”

In addition to placing Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court, Trump and McConnell have also flipped the “notoriously liberal,” as Trump called it, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (“Ninth Circus,” to Trump), which encompasses California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Guam, Oregon, and Washington — which was “a liberal bastion that has been aggressively reshaped into a more moderate court by the Trump administration,” as reported by Fox News in February.

Regardless of the official outcome of the presidential election, solidifying the conservative majority on the Supreme Court and reshaping the Ninth District will stand as a lasting accomplishment of a man whose first job in politics was as president of the United States.

Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Joe Biden cannot take that accomplishment away from him — regardless of the future. Nor can the disgraceful liberal media, who relentlessly and blatantly worked to destroy Trump’s presidency for four years.

In an article earlier today, I reported on Fox News host Laura Ingraham’s opening monologue on Monday, in which she not only gave a sober assessment of where she now sees “reality”; she also talked about the future of the Republican Party, and President Trump, as well.

“I cannot wait to see what President Trump does next,” she said. And she was right; neither can tens of millions of Americans.

But here’s the thing, as well. Trump’s accomplishments in the last four years left America in a better place than it was when he took office. Congressional Democrats and the “mainstream” media watched it happen; and it scared the hell out of them.

Well, it will only happen if “accommodating” Senator Graham and other Republican members of the Judiciary Committee go along with it.

In 1980, the Republicans won the Presidency by a landslide, and also flipped the Senate. Lame duck Jimmy Carter kept nominating, and the lame duck dem senators kept approving, liberal judges. One of them was Stephen Breyer to the Circuit Court - he would later go on to the Supreme Court.

Mitch might as well get used to it.

He’ll be doing nothing but, when he’s Schumer’s b_tch.

All the more reason that the Supremes, sensing their court will be destroyed, back the constitutional election challenges Trump brings.

The justices know their court is about to be destroyed should the Biden forces win.

They have no choice but to overturn the election or give in to the mob about to destroy the court.

Why wouldn't they be Trump's judges? He nominated all of them and they are part of his ongoing legacy.

Trump has only nominated judges that mcconnell pre approved, or on mcconnell's list. Trump's strategy has always been to make it look like the gop is one big happy family as a marketing ploy. Even in the face of being stabbed in the back by congress and mcconnell. They were never on Trump's side, and are not now.

Oh, I concur. What their term on the Supreme Court will be like with a packed court and packed lower courts full of crazy, loony libs, will have to be on their minds.

Thomas would likely retire, taking what little sanity remains, with him.

It will be like the 7th circle of Hell for the remaining Constitutionalists.

They will still have to make the choice, however, and will need an opportunity to make the right one.

Somehow, we’ve got to get these street-monkeys off their butts and burning things again. That’ll make the choice a lot easier.

I think the “Press” and Dem leadership know this and are going out of their way to check the rabble, at this point.

Say what you want about Mitch, but many of us will be dead and his judicial picks will still be going.

You got to give him that at least even when he goes full on republicrat.

yes, Isaiah (among others) had a few words about corrupt judges.....(they weren’t new with Obama)...

1:21 How is the faithful city become a harlot! She that was full of justice, righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.

1:22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water.

1:23 Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth bribes, and followeth after rewards; they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

1:24 Therefore saith the L-rd, the Lord of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Ah, I will ease Me of Mine adversaries, and avenge Me of Mine enemies;

1:25 And I will turn My hand upon thee, and purge away thy dross as with lye, and will take away all thine alloy;

1:26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning; afterward thou shalt be called The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

1:27 Zion shall be redeemed with justice, and they that return of her with righteousness.

1:28 But the destruction of the transgressors and the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the Lord shall be consumed.

1:29 For they shall be ashamed of the terebinths which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.

1:30 For ye shall be as a terebinth whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.

1:31 And the strong shall be as tow, and his work as a spark; and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.

FWIW
Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court is pushing 80. Would hate for him to retire if Biden is president. That would wipe out the originalist majority on the court.

So...if Thomas retires this month can McConnell push a younger conservative/originalist judge through? Does McConnell and the Repubs have the guts to do it?
