That said, there is a an uncomfortably large number of signs in front of the houses in my area for Biden.
Yes, yes, I get why Trump people would not put a sign in front of their house, especially in a mixed area.
But I also don't see that many American flags.
My working theory is that many of the homes with Biden signs belong to teachers who teach at the school down the street and parents don't want to identify themselves as possible Trump supporters to these teachers because their interactions with them have led them to believe they are unhinged enough to flunk their children.

Likely so. Usually the town’s largest employer is schools. Leftist-led, well-indoctrinated, ‘go along to get along’ sheeple, who had BETTER plant that Biden-Harris sign their union gave them.
Actually, now that I think of it, I am in a union and they did use to try to get me to put out a sign until they finally got the message that the condo association doesn’t allow it.
Just look at where we as a society have come to: The majority of Teachers are presumed to be vengeful, high strung, close minded Democrats who adore Socialism and abhor a truly free society.
Heh, I was working in the yard an hour ago and thought, you know what would be a good indicator of who’s going to win? The inventory of t-shirts! To those small businesses who have to invest real $ in advance, being a good predictor would be important.
As would the ability to stay up all night printing the right shirts ;-)

I have two wonderful, big dogs who spend a lot of time in my large front yard behind an electronic fence. There’s no way I’m going to expose them to murder.
Which state and city do you live in? That’s an indicator right there of why Biden signs outnumber the Trump signs.

Only teachers in public schools supported with tax dollars.
Private school teachers have to produce results and are not protected by teachers unions.
We have one (1) Biden sign in my neighborhood. These tramps still have their yard crammed full of every kind of goulish halloween decoration you can imagine too.
