A Libt...I mean, Leftist, recently suggested that California should bestow largesse on impoverished Mississippi. As PF Whalen writes in this article, "California had a reported government debt of over $1.5 trillion as of 2017..." ----------------------------------
California is a mess; no secret there. But the degree of decline that befalls it, and the quickness with which that decline is moving, seems to be largely ignored; particularly by Californians themselves. The nations most populous state, and arguably its most naturally beautiful, is falling apart virtually everywhere we look. Yet state and local governments not only insist on moving forward with leftist policies, they continually double-down by moving even further left, and the states voters return them to office with ever-increasing electoral margins. Californias current approach to virtually all aspects of society the economy, environment, legal system and culture is unsustainable, and the time for reckoning is rapidly approaching.

That was always my argument when I lived out there, even in the '90s. We were always bombarded about how "unfair" that relief was. They clammed up when I asked, "What's the problem? Given the mobility of Americans most will move on and the new taxes kick in. Those retired will die off in the years ahead, so they won't be taxed out of their homes - as they were Pre-Prop 13.
Yeah but you'd have to live in California.
Actually they've been bailing out for a few decades due to numerous reasons like sky high taxes, 60 year old homes costing over half a million, illegals in every direction, punitive liberal regulations, over crowding, et al.
I wonder if Steinbeck would appreciate the irony of Californians now moving to Oklahoma and Arkansas.
When I watch “The Five” on Fox, when they break away for commercials, sometimes the show a street shot. The street is mostly deserted with few vehicles. New York is headed for ghost town status, except for the roaring tribes, stealing whatever is left.
I disagree. While it would be great to flip it it’s pretty much lost. I think it would be far better for the conservatives in California to move to Nevada and Arizona to keep those states red, and move to districts in Texas to flip congressional seats red. That seems far more possible than flipping California.
No self respecting conservative would move to that place.
Because of high property appreciation, low property taxes, and the weather...
