VANITY--Has anyone else noticed that Columbus Day is being referred to as "long weekend?"

I'm noticing more and more businesses such as car dealerships are advertising "long weekend" sales.

Our own administrative assistant at work wished everyone a nice "long weekend." Of course she has a college aged daughter that went in normal and came out looking like Rachel Madcow.

I haven’t heard that, but I know the day is extremely downplayed or even ignored. I still call it Columbus Day because that’s what it is, and I don’t feel the need to apologize for our civilization.

I’m Choctaw. I say this every year: “Give Columbus his day.” He is a hugely important historical figure who was a man of his times. He is a crucial part of American history.

One my favorite model airplane companies - Horizon Hobby - just came out with indigenous peoples Day sale.
I sent them an e-mail reminding them that it was Columbus Day and asking them to remove me from their e-mail list.
Get woke, go broke.

My android cell phone automatically populated Columbus Day as “indigenous people’s day”.

It’s as if the only notable thing indigenous people have done is get discovered by Christopher Columbus.

Ask them how they plan to celebrate “White History month”.

My phone gives a choice. Columbus or indigenous people say. I'll stick with Chris even though he didn't make it here. It was an "idea". 🙌

"Indigenous" means "originating from the country of". Columbus was indigenous from Italy, right?
So "Columbus Day" is just as indigenous as any other.

Check history...In the book “The Lost Colony and Hatteras Island”, Scott Dawson writes about Christopher Columbus:
Christopher Columbus wrote a letter to King Ferdinand of Spain describing how he purchased Native girls to use as sex slaves and how girls as young as nine and ten were in high demand.
There is a reason American Indian groups across the United States protest Columbus Day.

As far as I know, I had no choice. I’d like to stick with Chris, too. Gonna Google it, anyhow, to see if I can undo it.
