Savannah Police say one man is facing charges after throwing an unknown object and pointing a gun at a group of protestors Saturday afternoon.
34-year-old Fredrick James of Decatur is facing charges of aggravated assault and reckless conduct.
Police say about 30-40 protestors gathered in the intersection on Bay Street in front of city hall around 5:45 p.m. Saturday and laid down in the intersection blocking traffic, resulting in cars having to drive around them. One male driver drove up beside them and threw out a smoke grenade.
This led some of the protesters to run away while others began attacking the man’s trucks with objects and their fists.
As a result, the driver got out of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the remaining protestors.

By the time officers arrived the crowd and protestors had dispersed but the driver, who was identified as Fredrick James, 34, of Decatur, was soon located.
He was charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct. Opinion: It’s completely within his rights.
I’d prefer to have drawn and remained at the low ready position instead of on them, but it did the same job.
I think he handled it just fine.
It is sad that it has literally come down to this, we as humans sure have jumped back in time with having to defend ourselves against these so-called Peaceful Protesters! Time to shut down these Terrorists!
My opinion is don’t lay in the road where cars drive (and horse buggies buggy) and also don’t bash in vehicles. You never know who might be armed and could pop a cap in you. And also, it’s rude and pathetic.

(Sigh) it's so gratifying nice to see an American utilizing his Constitutional rights.
I see someone driving around a group laying in the middle of a city street, getting his truck vandalized, an object being thrown at his passenger window, endangering his passenger, and then the driver using self-defense.
The prosecutor, mayor, and chief of police also need to pay out of pocket, not the taxpayer's pocket.

His actions would not have been necessary if the police had been doing their job. Though, since I don’t know how long they had been blocking the road, the police may not have had time to respond.
Same old same old..Where the hell are the police? And why aren’t they throwing these clowns in jail? Imagine if pro-lifers did that in the driveways of Planned Parenthood. There would be a paddy wagon taking the pro-lifers to jail.
I don’t think he did anything wrong, but I think to prevent charges you should point the gun up and away, and if they balk, THEN point it at them.
My gun doesn’t have one in the chamber, so it would not be reckless endangerment anyway since it would be “unloaded” until I cock it.
Something similar happened in Los Angeles the other day. A driver was attacked by a mop in the street and started to get away only to be pulled over by the cops shortly after getting clear of the mob.
The Declaration of Independence mentions life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Perhaps this man’s pursuit of happiness is owning a nice truck. When the rioters began to try to wreak harm on his truck, then he had the right to protect his hard earned truck. He protested against them by showing them his weapon and it worked. The rioters flushed like a covey of quail. This man is innocent of all charges.
Would love to serve on the jury that tries him if there is one.
