Gov. Mike DeWine says Ohioans will wear masks for years, after new study finds just 1.5% of state had coronavirus antibodies in July

A study of Ohio adults found that 1.5% had antibodies to COVID-19 in July, when the state conducted a large study to try to estimate the prevalence of the illness.

Statewide, that corresponds to about 133,000 Ohio adults.

Antibodies are proteins developed in people who were previously infected with the coronavirus. Researchers also found that 0.9% of people had active coronavirus illnesses at that time. That corresponds statewide 80,000 people.

The conclusion of the study made by Gov. Mike DeWine is that so few Ohioans are immune that the state’s residents will have to continue to wear masks, physically space themselves apart and exercise other measures to prevent spread of COVID-19. These measures could continue for years, until a vaccine is widely available, he said...

Hey Mikey, any chance we might have some small amount of immunity in our bodies from exposure to other Corona viruses?

You will ruin Ohio if you keep up with these shenanigans.

I’m beginning to think his Napoleon complex is making Napoleon’s Napoleon complex more akin to a just a plain old eclair complex.

Remember, we’re talking about a virus with both biological and political virulence.

You can rip the bandaid off all at once or pull it slow and make the pain last a long time.

Except the antibodies regress when T-cell immunity sets in and there is cross immunity with other coronal virus infections + a vaccine is imminent...Erego, Governor DeWine is full of crap...

Can T-cell immunity for COVID-19 be tested for at all and separated out for T-cell immunity to other viruses in the same family?

If so, then is it just a matter of using the correct antibody test and they are not doing that in Ohio?

DeWine has been there forever. He was the Lt Governor when I lived in Ohio a quarter century ago. He’s been in Columbus and Washington too long.

The KungFlu will be over on November 4.

Only if Biden wins.

If Trump wins re-election...

He will continue to be blamed for the virus, and democrats will continue to keep their cities and states from getting back to work, and will continue to report record infections.

All with the intended purpose of....

(here we go again)

Impeaching Trump for neglecting to do his job in protecting the American people.

No way that democrats will leave him alone, and will put all kinds of hurdles in front of him until he's either removed or resigns or leaves at the end of his 2nd term.

My favorite FR doctor! Thank you for your post!

Yes, DeWine is so full of crap. He should be flushed down ASAP.

Btw, I saw this chart where Ohio is roughly at the halfway mark for highest/lowest deaths per capita.

The flatter the curve the longer the wait. This whole approach is stupid on steroids--right now it is obvious what two steps to take in places that don't have herd immunity yet:

1) Isolate the people who are very old or have health conditions that put them at risk.

2) Take off the masks and lift all restrictions on everybody else.

After these two steps, you are done. The at risk people can come out of hiding in a month or so and its over and the maximum number of lives are saved in a shorter time with a smaller impact on economy and mental health from isoloation and dehumanizing lockdown BS.

Shouldn’t the conclusion from such low prevalence more logically have been that covid-19 is not nearly as virulent as we’ve been led to believe?

You are so right. We moved from Cbus 7 years ago. I knew so very little about Indiana, but a great job opportunity brought us here. Love it here and can’t imagine moving back to Ohio, even though we still have family there.

DeWine has been part of the political scene for most of my previous 25 years in Ohio. Like most politicians, DeWine tries to be a good enough guy so he can win re-election, but he is still first and foremost a politician.

One of the reasons I love Trump so much is that he is NOT a politician. He’s not an ideologue. He just wants what’s best for our country.

It is a rare and incredibly complex test. So not really. But we know epidemiologically T cells are stimulated and that’s why it is postulated that herd immunity starts at 20% because is the existence of cross immunology. It seems to make sense and the hypothesis is backed by the data

No it’s not about vaccines. I swear the single issue Fearper really is detrimental to advancement. But with cross immunity and a vaccine that don’t worry you won’t be forced to take this thing should be in the review mirror by the holidays.

At some point these politicians are going to have to wear a mask of our choosing.

I suggest a two gallon Ziplock freezer baggie secured with duct tape.
