Rep. Kevin Brady is calling for an investigation into the source behind the New York Times access to President Trumps tax documents.
Brady (R-TX) is the head Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee.
He states there is a possibility that a felony crime was committed by releasing the private tax return information of the President.
To ensure every American is protected against the illegal release of their tax returns for political reasons, I am calling for an investigation of the source and to prosecute if the law was broken, Brady announced.
The New York Times report, released on Monday, accuses President Trump of having paid $750 in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017.
Their report does, however, note that Trump made the required payment to the I.R.S. for income taxes he might owe $1 million for 2016 and $4.2 million for 2017.
Most of those payments were rolled forward for future tax payments.

Call the FBI and Durham. They will be right on it.
26 U.S. Code § 7213 - Unauthorized disclosure of information
(a)Returns and return information
(1)Federal employees and other persons
It shall be unlawful for any officer or employee of the United States or any person described in section 6103(n) (or an officer or employee of any such person), or any former officer or employee, willfully to disclose to any person, except as authorized in this title, any return or return information (as defined in section 6103(b)). Any violation of this paragraph shall be a felony punishable upon conviction by a fine in any amount not exceeding $5,000, or imprisonment of not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution, and if such offense is committed by any officer or employee of the United States, he shall, in addition to any other punishment, be dismissed from office or discharged from employment upon conviction for such offense.
Who works at the IRS? The IRS is a pretend-you-work-instead-of-welfare employer. Since there will be no prosecution, someone looked at his tax information and gave it to a hate-America marxist, and from there it got to the times.
This should be easy to investigate. The president’s tax filings are treated differently from all the rest. Special processing. Fewer people have access to it.
Not holding my breath waiting for this......
Yeah. Wray will make it his first priority. /s
I would like to know if the NYT paid anything of value to get them. That could be a bribe.
Top Republican?
Barr is a blowhard but if he will not enforce the law by prosecuting criminals no matter who they are then he is corrupt and should go. Step up, Barr, or you are no better than Christopher Wray.
Republicans are SO SLOW FOOTED and SLOW WITTED!
The Democrats would have done this 10 minutes after!
Put times reporter under oath and ask who is the source. This is a crime, 1st amendment offers no protection.
Wray will look for a White supremacist behind the curtain
Fire Christopher Wray
absolutely prosecute the criminal.
(but he’s also very stupid to have released these tax returns if he wanted to hurt PDJT....he should have checked first to make sure there was anything wrong or illegal in them)
Laws? We don’t need not stinking’ laws.
