Smoking weed is the newest worry for California firefighters as the states biggest wildfire races toward the nations biggest marijuana-producing region.
The wildfire is headed for Post Mountain and Trinity Pines, two small communities northwest of Sacramento that lie in the heart of cannabis country.
And many of the locals up to 1,000 are refusing to evacuate because they want to protect their pot.
Law enforcement officials went knocking on doors, but cant make anybody go, Trinity County Sheriffs Department Deputy Nate Trujillo told the AP.
Its mainly growers, Trujillo said. And a lot of them, they dont want to leave because that is their livelihood.
Trinity Pines alone has as many as 40 legal farms and 10 times more in illegal patches, sources told the outlet. Each farms crops are worth $500,000 or more and harvest time is only days or weeks away.
There [are] millions of dollars, millions and millions of dollars of marijuana out there, the sheriff said. Some of those plants are 16 feet tall, and they are all in the budding stages of growth right now.

Yeah, it would be a real shame if more young kids don’t get their lives ruined, hah?
Awwwwww ....too bad.
Now, by God, you’ll see these fires put out in a minute!
Almost certainly no crop insurance.
Those living downwind should be happy.
Indeed. My immediate reaction was one of joy and laughter as I imagined clouds of marijuana smoke penetrating into all areas of the USA where no marijuana plant...what a fine and happy placid place the USA would then become...most likely to succumb to the pleasantness will be smoker like the BLM and antifa groups as they really know how to inhale!!
I wonder if they are so worried about something actually getting burned, like food crops.
Up in smoke, dude.
>>If the next week gets even wackier then normal it is due to the national contact high!
“The next full Moon will occur on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 5:05 PM ET, and is known as the Full Harvest Moon.”
California winds are supposed to be headed towards Oregon for the next couple of days.
The earliest maturing crops are coming down now.
Everything will be in the drying sheds by Oct 20th.
Everyone and their dogs are sleeping in the middle of their grows now, and have been for a couple of weeks.
Shotgun central.
Thousands of boutique growers have earned their living this way for generations. And they work hard almost every day, 10 months per year.
I’m told we may be seeing some smoke in western Washington from the California fires.
