FUN FACT: Today’s nomination ceremony will take place in The Rose Garden. The garden is currently being transformed to appear like The Rose Garden on June 14, 1993 — the day Ruth Bader Ginsburg was nominated.

Oct 29 is way too late and needlessly so!
let’s ask our senators to get it done now

Agree. Doesn’t leave much room for error. Oct 29 is the Thursday before Election Day on the following Tuesday.

On the other hand if the Dems are in full Kavanaugh attack and disruption mode having it fresh in the minds of people as they vote is not such a bad thing.

Fun fact or creepy pandering for one of Ivanka’s heroines?

Not good. She needs to be voted on a week before. I know it’s only 2 days but there needs to be a cushion just in case....Democrats

10/29 is cutting it close. What kind of maneuvers can the rats employ to delay the vote? IIRC they used a few in the Kavanaugh hearings.
Graham was very cheesed off by the shenanigans, as was Collins in spite of their generally squishy politics. Maybe this time he will have a more effective strategy.

Well, this way, they will presumeably have a week of hearings, and give the Democrats enough rope to hang themselves, and they bluff and bluster, and Corey Booker auditions for the part of Spartacus. This is not necessarily bad news to have this schedule.

If they had a vote in the next few days, then the media and Democrats would claim it was rushed through and they didn’t get any say on the nomination. This schedule takes away that argument.

Yep. She was just confirmed by the Senate a couple of years ago. They should speed it up.

I understand your point, but haven’t read and understand enough of the scheduling and procedural details to understand why it is October 29th, a full month away. Why couldn’t it be a week earlier? What are the time-irreducible things that have to be done before allowing debate and scheduling cloture?

the numbers in the Senate were closer with Kavanaugh than now. Remember Flake? And this time there won’t be a #MeToo issue so Collins and Murkowski don’t have to put on a show defending women which was a big part of why they insisted on supporting Flake’s extra delay.

The Democrats have had time to build up dirt since 2017. I would expect they will drop it a week to 10 days before the vote in order to make it impossible to nominate someone else.

“Oct 29 is way too late and needlessly so!”

Agree strongly. Believe me, something will come up like a witness at the last minute to make some serious false accusation and demand delay, investigation etc. The media will pound it making it hard for Mitch to ignore. It’s the standard playbook. I supported what Rush said, no hearings just vote.

I would love to speed that up just a bit.

It would be a full-court press (pun intended) to make it to the opening of this year’s Supreme Court session. However, I’d love to get it done on October 23, the anniversary of the Senate’s rejection of Robert Bork.

Oct. 29 is way too late. The Dems will make this such a circus that none of Trump’s message will get out.

Good questions, and I don’t know why it couldn’t happen a week earlier?

Really, since she was just investigated and confirmed as a federal judge only three years ago, she really doesn’t need a long week of hearings for Democrats to “evaluate” her qualifications.

Honestly, they could vote tomorrow, as every single Democrat will vote no, possibly except for Joe Manchin of W. Va. Hearings being held won’t change any minds.
