Good choice? Bad Choice? Controversial? Odds of getting a Senate vote before 3 November?
Lagoa, the Cuban American.
Strictly a rapid confirmation/political tie-in recommendation. Lagoa doesn’t have Barrett’s “Handmaiden’s Tale”/ Catholic cult baggage for Senate Democrats to exploit to gum up the confirmation process and use to mobilize their base further. Lagoa’s Cuban-American background brings a connection back to Florida’s Cuban community and to the broader Hispanic community as a whole. Strong resonance with those communities cannot hurt and just may draw more votes for Trump in a critical state and a critical voting block.
It is also important to have at least the first round of confirmation hearings before the end of October. This is because of the spectacular a**es the Democrats will make of themselves attacking a well-qualified woman judge on national television in a very public venue just days before the election. The Democrat left/liberal base will demand it. They just cannot help themselves.
Here is a link to a comparison article on the two judges in the Daily Mail:
In a perfect world, my pick would be Mark Levin.
Can you imagine him challenging Dem senators during committee testimony? And think how his questioning would be during oral arguments before the Court?
He’d eviscerate everyone.
Obviously, that pick won’t happen - but I can dream.
Born 1978 Elizabeth Britt Cagle[1] in Atlanta, Georgia, Grant attended The Westminster Schools.(Presbyterian) She received a Bachelor of Arts in English and politics from Wake Forest University in North Carolina.[2] She worked for then-Congressman Nathan Deal in Washington, D.C., and then served in various roles in the administration of President George W. Bush.[2] Grant received a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School, where she was president of the Federalist Society chapter, and was thereafter a law clerk to then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.[3][4]
People of faith.... Black grandparents are strong people of faith...and vote democratic... if they can be for Jesus.. how can they be for socialism.. or liars.... or abortion...
I believe black grandparents are good for their grandkids also.... just good people... but don’t go vote dem!
More and more, it appears the Left sees "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, as a template, rather than a distopia.
In Brave New World, there were no mothers. Children were conceived and brought to life in artificial wombs.
In Brave New World, the idea of a "family" was considered disgusting.
Exactly. Washington D.C. is a powerful temptress and it takes a strong person to resist its seductive charms once there. Lagoas resume certainly demonstrates that shes competent enough to be on the Court, but its too thin in other areas for one to even have the hope that she wont pull an OConnor or Souter after a few terms.
Lagoa is an actual Wise Latina®, so there’s that.
And they still could. We're talking about Democrats.
Great choice. Due to her strong Christian/Catholic faith I don’t think she will be susceptible to the lure of the left like so many “conservative” justices have been in the past. She is a firebrand of a Constitutionalist. She will make a great USSC Justice for many years to come.
Enter the conclave as a Pope, come out of the conclave as a Cardinal.
I hope she is a Christian and not just a Catholic.
First thought it might impact woman’s vote, but on second thought, women who kill babies are not going to vote for Trump anyway.
So, if Amy Coney Barrett isn’t acceptable to you, who is?
The left will have false witnesses lined up against her by now better to choose Barbara Lagoa. She will have a community ready to come to her defense.
Barrett is the one they’re expecting, I’d like to see the President makes a more inspired choice.
She was talking about a specific case, not abortion in general. She is totally pro life.
“First in line a black women...”
You can go ahead and drop that line and spare us, if you don’t mind. Why would a conservative black woman justice turn our a pro-Republican vote when a conservative black Clarence Thomas didn’t?
Which is a lie because the original book the Handmaids Tale was based on an Islamic take over and their treatment of women. The original film maker changed it to a hyper Christian take over.
What are her views on the Second Amendment?
