Since each state gets to make its own laws about how its elections are conducted, Trump might not have the power to force blue governors to follow standard voting procedures.
BUT, I'm thinking, he MAY have the authority to direct the FEC to move up the date by which all votes have to be certified.
Yes? No? What are the flaws to this idea? If it's do-able, it could be a great way to knock these governors back into line. Feedback please, FReepers -- thanks
There is a specific date in law, sometime in mid-December, when the electoral college will meet and cast their votes.
This means that prior to that date, that each individual state needs to have certified their election returns.
It would be pretty neat for Trump to pull a page out of the Obama playbook and decide how (or if) a law is going to be applied...
No.
No, it wouldn’t. I did not vote to replace one dictator with another.
Rubio introduced a bill to do the direct opposite of what you propose. I believe he wants to delay it until after New Years.
And when the Supreme Court rules his order unconstitutional? How neat is that?
Sadly that is becoming the choice.
We can keep fighting “fair” and losing or we can start fighting to win and then fixing what is wrong and pray we do fix it.
That is the choice. Or you can just lose.
Here it is... This guy is a deep stater.
Poor choice of words on my part. I meant to talk about how it would be interesting to watch Democrat heads explode. But of course, I don’t want Trump pulling anything that could be construed as illegal or unconstitutional.
It should be painfully obvious to everyone now. The plan to install Harris as POTUS (Biden is merely a cardboard cut out) is:
Massive voter fraud and mail in ballot confusion
Lawsuits everywhere dragging out the results
Massive violent riots (they are training now in major cities) that WON’T be met with defunded police
Removing Trump from office no matter what the results
Kinda like one army fighting the old Colonial way by marching in a line in an open field while the other guys hide behind trees and shoot them.
But they died as gentlemen.
In a word, no. The schedule is set by federal and state law with no input by the President.
The date and time is set in Federal Statute. The law must be changed, it cannot be changed by Executive Order.
No, each state is required to certify their election and electoral votes in writing to Congress the used and the chief of archives, all certified letters and the Congress opens and tallies the electoral votes state by state per federal law.
The president pro temp of the Senate is the head of the process.
One concern has been the Nov be long, but, there is no mechanism nationally to compute an official talky of the popular vote, so that funny business ought to be ridiculed and soundly rejected by anyone with a brain and a basic knowledge of our “national” election.
In reality, each state chooses their potus, and then the US Congress percolate thhe totals to declare the actual potus.
Look it up In the US codes for specific dates.
No. Presidential electors have to follow a schedule.
The rest of the Federal elections have to follow a schedule set by Congress.
States are responsible for determining how electors are assigned.
The Federal executive has nothing to do with any of this.
Instead of bitching about it, the Republicans should be focused on how to maximize their results.
If you are a registered voter and you vote by mail and still vote at a polling place because the mail-in vote did not arrive at the polling place yet..Ya get my drift?
Also, if more votes than registered voters are counted in any district THAT is fraud.
This whole Vote-By-Mail BS should be outlawed NOW !
Absentee Voting, that’s OK.
