Once again I'm tapping the collective brain trust of Free Republic to get some answers concerning Laser Eye Protection.
If you're up on current events, and if you're a Freeper, you are. You've seen antifa and blm terrorists blinding people with lasers. I just saw a video of a woman on her front porch surrounded by these terrorists and her face was green. There must have been at least 15 lasers pointed at her eyes. This does worry me and I've been researching laser protective eye protection and can't really seem to find a definitive answer as to what type is effective against these high power green lasers.
Can someone help me out and school me on laser protective eye ware, where to buy it, and which kind is the most effective.
If you go in for a treatment using lasers (dermatologist, dentist, etc.), you have to wear laser safety glasses. Why won’t those glasses work for the cops?
Would turning mirrors on them help?????
Laser use during protests
Dang, that is good...
Hell yeah.
Makes you a target, but you can drop and run and fire at the general direction to escape...CYA and GTF
I would say shoot back with bullets at the person trying to blind you.
Ping for later topic viewing.
bttt
I personally think lasers deliberately used offensively should ge classified as a weapon, because it doesn’t matter if its a small pointer or a customized backpack powered burner that can actually hit the moon.
Thing is certain entities such as laser favored websites are intensely owned by...the Chinese, who market billions of lasers being sold globally.
I can buy a hundred cheap ones, different wavelengths, attach then to a cylinder or just a pvc pipe on the end of a cordless drill and cranked up to speed would have a very offensing multi color weapon. Regular laser goggles would not block all.
Yep. Lasers, like guns, are very easy to build.
At this point, Im hoping for a deterrence effort.
A few punks blown out of their socks while holding a laser after witnesses saw him/her trying to blind an innocent might do the trick.
Auto dimming welding helmets wont work. They use solar cells to power an LCD shutter for broad spectrum darkness, mostly for comfort. The glass itself filters out ultraviolet and infrared. A Single green laser wont power the solar cells.
It might be possible to make a laser detector that would operate the shutter fast enough to prevent (much) damage. Having it work fast enough and clear/dark enough to be wearable and effective, probably very tough.
Of course, turning away allows the creeps to approach unseen. My hearing is shot, so seeing is everything defensively.
This behavior should have been immediately discouraged by snipers.
Aiming a flat mirror is an issue.
A corner reflector made of mirrors would be what is needed for sidestepping the aiming issue. Making one at close to perfect angles would be tricky.
I agree with the 12 gauge option. Actually, laser safety goggles are specific for the laser wavelength. They are designed to block the specific characteristics of the laser in use. Unfortunately, one size doesnt fit all. The lasers in use by the dirtbags appear to be 550 nM hand held units. They fall under the Class IV category which means that they can do damage to body tissue. Lasers are safety characterized by whats called the Safe Eye Exposure Distance (SEED). The Nd YAG family of lasers (which these appear to be) can have a SEED measured in miles.
This was on free republic last week.
Federal Police Buy 1,000 Pairs of Sunglasses to Protect Officers From Protesters Lasers
Portland protesters and federal police are now in a battle of dueling leaf blowers.
The U.S. Federal Protective Service is spending $125,000 on sunglasses to protect federal officers’ eyes from lasers shone at them by protesters, according to a procurement request.
The July 10 document cites the use of lasers by Portland protesters as a reason to buy 1,000 pairs of StingerHawk FT-2 Laser Protective Eyewear.
Each pair costs $125. The document says the glasses are needed for officers across the nation, because lasers could cause flash blindness, burns, retinal bleeding and headaches.
One would think that anyone pointing a laser at someone else’s eyes might cause great bodily harm.
Absolutely.
Make it very clear that, Lasering, the eyes of innocents results in deadly force being implemented.
Not just by law enforcement.
one thing I’ve noticed about the Portland rioters using lazers - they are very easy to see (and trackback to the source) in a cloud of smoke
then your buddy can flank them and take them out of tree where they’re perched. (although the PPD hasn’t figured out this part yet)
