WaPo wonders: Why did decades of progressive leadership in Minneapolis create even more inequality?
Hot Air ^ | July 1, 2020 | Ed Morrissey

You had us at progressive leadership, Washington Post. This analysis of the abject failure of a half-century of progressive control of the Twin Cities — and for that matter, increasingly radical progressive control — carries more than a whiff of an assumption that failure was only correlative rather than causative. How could inequality have gotten worse, Tracy Jan wonders, especially when state policy also applied progressive principles to the issue?

Because the progressive left is very good at knocking the lower rungs out of the ladder of economic opportunity.

Magic Dirt theory states that if you take lots of folks from the third world and transplant them to Minneapolis, they will miraculously act just like the cast of the Mary Tyler Moore show.

Any challenge to the Magic Dirt theory is racist and could get you fired from your job.

I took a swallow of medicine and it didn’t seem to do any harm..so then i drank a whole bottle of the same medicine and it almost killed me.
Can’t figure out what went wrong?

It’s gotta be because there were still some Republicans there.

Because the WaPo is completely ignorant of what happened in the Soviet Union and East Bloc. Countless millions murdered, the natural environment turned into a toilet, Chernobyl, etc. These are the realities and the standards by which “progressiveism” should be judged.

That plus there’s little more effective at retarding economic growth than progressive policy. Look at FDR - turned what should have been a 3-4 year bad recession into a decade-long Great Depression.

I've been watching some videos by Stephen Hicks about post-modernism. One of his points is that in the post-WWII era, by the 1960s, it was actually becoming obvious that socialism had failed. Capitalist countries were richer, happier, more advanced in every way, and poor people in capitalist countries were doing great. Socialist countries could not compete, anywhere on the globe.

THEREFORE the Left embraced post-modernism which is really more of a rhetorical device than anything else. Using the techniques of post-modernism (there is no truth, there is no objectivity, my beliefs and my feelings are actually much more important than your facts, etc.) the Left was able to ignore the success of capitalism, and ignore the failure of socialism, and still push for Progressivism with no shame at all.

Progressivism does nothing but cause damage. And the Progressives don't care.

Let’s always challenge ALL the premises of leftist assertions.

“Inequality” didn’t get “worse”, at least not against blacks.

What the leftists made worse were things like poverty, immorality, drug abuse, crime, education.

Back when I was growing up, we’d say “they could F$$! up a s##t sandwich”.

“Why did decades of progressive leadership in Minneapolis create even more inequality?”

Same reason, why after the confederate statues come down, military installation names are changed, police are defunded, etc., it is unlikely as a result that a black person will become employed or black crackhead stop doing crack, or the illegitimacy rate to decline in the black community? 95% of their efforts is looking for blame outside their community for their failure as a culture while only 5% is spent on trying to correct the root causes in their culture that cause it

The demographics of the state has been roughly 95-percent white...at least up until the 1990s. Minneapolis began to add blacks, Asians, and Latinos. They came in and took the jobs that they were qualified for...cheap labor market. In simple terms, the city created a mini-version of Mogadishu.

If you go and drive outside of Minneapolis, it’s still 95-percent white for the rest of the state. I fail to see how they can build some ‘bridge’ to reach equality with this type of demographic.

Minneapolis city council calls Republicans/ conservatives/ unhappy tax-payers of whatever background “white nationalists.”

That, and the soft bigotry of low expectations. The left has given up on raising black educational outcomes, reducing illegitimacy, or dealing with the cultural and behavioral problems of the underclass. To mask its assumption of perpetual black inferiority, the left deems it racist to discuss the substantive issues of the black underclass and attributes all difficulties to a non-specific ambient haze of systemic racism, so subtle that cannot be measured by any concrete standard and can only be detected by highly sensitive outrage meters.

I guess Einstein said it best. The definition of insanity is to try the same old over and over and expecting a different result.

I believe the equality is not based on everyone being well off, but is based on everyone being equal in poverty.

Except the elites, they keep the good stuff all for themselves.

Why wonder?

The elites always stoke racial tension to keep We The People separated and angry at each other so that never get together and turn on them. There are more of us. That is what they fear and that is why they want to eliminate the masses.

When you create a class of victims, telling them they can’t achieve without assistance from the government, and base that distinction on the color of their skin, you have inequality built in from inception. The entire system is premised on racism.

I have heard that before the so-called “progressive leadership” appeared, Minnesota was a hotbed of anti-Semitism.

This is heresy to the Left (and to much of the Right), but what if no ideology can deliver equality? What if inequality is the natural condition of peoples, and it is not within their power to “solve” it? This really gets down to what Thomas Sowell calls “The Vision of the Anointed”.

I’d go with “willfully ignorant” since it’s a well-established fact that their fellow travelers in the media, the NYT, won a Pulitzer in the 30s by falsely reporting the conditions under Stalin.

Also-Liberals in political office and in all bureaucratic positions are positively and wholly focused on stuffing their pockets.

Whatever they campaigned on to get INTO office is absolute twaddle.
