A career criminal with more than 100 arrests to his name was busted for cruelly shoving a 92-year-old woman into a Manhattan fire hydrant — leaving his victim too scared to walk alone in her own neighborhood. The injured elder, a Bronx native named Geraldine, spoke to The Post on Tuesday after cops arrested convicted sex offender Rashid Brimmage, 31, and charged him with attacking her. “I thought a brick hit me or something hit me on the left side of my head, and I went right down and hit my head against the hydrant,” Geraldine, who asked that her last name be withheld for safety reasons, said of the attack. “Blood was coming out, not spurting blood, but blood was dripping.” Geraldine, who has lived in Manhattan for more than 50 years, was on her way to Duane Reade when Brimmage allegedly shoved her to the ground near Third Avenue and East 16th Street in Gramercy Park at about 3:30 p.m. Friday. She slammed against the fire hydrant and lay on the ground until a passerby called 911 and medics rushed her to nearby Beth Israel Hospital. The former teacher, who never married but is dating an 89-year-old lawyer, said her physical wounds were relatively minor and have since healed — but the mental toll has been much more severe.

This is the problem in Seattle, Portland, LA and elsewhere. Living on the street and using drugs means they have accumulated many dozens of charges from public order to theft. Liberal DA’s and mayors refuse to deal with them, either through jail or forced treatment. So they are released every time.
BLM doesn’t apply at Planned Parenthood and other abortion factories. I guess, since I’m Pro-Life, I must be racist because I’m convinced All Lives Matter!

This man needs to be put in a mental hospital indefinitely.
His past crimes and assaults are “not for profit” - they appear random and without reason. I suspect that his jail records would likely reflect this too.
In summary, he needs to be indefinitely committed to a mental institution to protect society. He will be “locked up” longer there than he will be in a jail or prison as the criminal justice system is incapable of keeping people like him because they typically receive plea bargains that account for their mental condition (or lack thereof) to just move the case through the system. They go in to jail for a short stay and they come back out and inevitably re-offend.
Rinse and repeat. Clearly the criminal justice system is not the answer here.

You are right.
We have some seriously cracked eggs walking around in public throughout the United States, but it is particularly bad in certain cities.
You cannot fix them with incarceration because they are only in for a short time. They are crazy and pose a continual danger to society.
Civil commitment.
Bad parenting. Probably. But bad teachers? Ann, what you saw in that video happens to teachers every day. I myself was once hit so hard that it knocked me over, and I had to go to the hospital.
No teacher likes that. And no teacher teaches it as acceptable behavior.
So why does it happen, in schools anyway? Like with society in general, in schools bad behavior is excused away. Principals get bonuses - and promotions - by limiting suspensions. So a kid who would have been thrown out of school in the old days is now sent right back to class, with a note telling the teacher to call home.
And woe to the teacher who calls the police to report a violent incident. We were told that calling the police was a firing offense. And that was because you weren’t going through the proper channels. Of course, when you go through the proper channels everything was hushed up.
Yes, today’s curriculum is weak. Things like manners and citizenship aren’t taught anymore. But teachers no longer have any input on what’s being taught. That all comes from central administration.
