28th Amendment, 35 States and Counting.
Someone e mailed this to me... is it accurate?
I thought if an email had a line like this in it, it was guaranteed to be true: “forward this email to a minimum of 20 people, and to ask each of those to do likewise.”
Isn’t that the same line Nigerian Princes use?
If it sounds to good to be true then it probably isn’t true
“..... is it accurate?”
> “Is this real?”
No, it’s not. It’s an internet circular and has no support but achieves to inflame public moods.
Yes, the things listed are in many cases egregious but the Constitution would be longer than the Bible and impossible to manage and administer if every egregious incident were woven into the Constitution and coded into federal statutes.
Here is a 28th Amendment that is simple and will put power in the hands of state legislatures and state voters to bring pressure on the US Senate which is the deliberative body to target in passing and amending bills that can clean out the egregious items listed above:
************************************************
AMENDMENT XXVIII
To redress the balance of powers between the federal government and the States and to restore effective suffrage of State Legislatures to Congress, the following amendment is proposed:
************************************************
Section 1.
A Senator in Congress shall be subject to recall by majority vote in their respective state legislature or by a majority in a voter referendum in their respective state.
Section 2.
Term limits for Senators in Congress shall be set by vote in their respective state legislatures but in no case shall be set less than two terms nor more than three terms.
************************************************
In short, the 17th Amendment was a disaster for the Republic causing a severance among representative bodies of federal, state and local governments. This robbed the people of power and influence.
Ask yourself if you really think your vote can overcome a choice between Senator A and Senator B when both are put on the menu by the same entity. That entity cares not which you choose as both are owned. This situation exists in many states, not all but many. It exists enough to exert strong influence if not control over the US Senate by an oligarchy.
The above amendment draft provides an outside state legislative and populist tool to make the US Senate pay attention. If state voters do not like any provisions of federal law that allow the egregious incidents described in the internet circular above, this simpler draft of a 28th Amendment will put fear into US Senators that they can be fired by either the state they carry title to or the state’s voters. The importance and historical impact of this fear factor cannot be overstated. US Senators will adapt to clear state and voter hurdles before voting exceptions and items bordering on corruption.
The Founders never envisioned a society that would elect to high office the sort of blackguards and brigands that they would routinely tar, feather and shun.
What a ridiculous idea.
Have you looked at amendments? They are specifically short and to the point. We’ve been arguing the placement of commas in the second amendment for 200 years—how do you think this piece of junk would look.
In addition, MOST of what is listed in their is not close to being true:
1. Student debt crap? All false.
2. Retirement crap. Mostly false.
3. Exempt from laws: They are exempt from all laws while on the floor of the Congress when it is in session. This is from the Old English Law. But, the way its presented....bullcrap.
4. They are not exempt from healthcare....they have the same Federal BC/BS that a postal worker has. They DO have access to military hospitals.
This is red meat crap. You really need to do some reading before believing junk from Facebook.
In fact, most of whats posted in comments on FR is wrong, made up, or just crap as well. Trust your own research.
Misc. emails should not be allowed at all.
..
I asked a simple question and I did not invite you to kick s%@t in my face, thanks
Just like they made the military start doing. Do a 401k plan instead of a 20 year retirement that I have. They really screwed up the military people with retirement.
To answer your question I don’t think much of it is accurate. Children of Congress members have to pay their student loans. Congressional staffers have to pay their student loans. Member of Congress don’t retire with full pay regardless of how long they serve. They haven’t exempted themselves from healthcare reform. Twenty seven states sued over Obamacare, not thirty five. And there is no 28th Amendment being debated that I’m aware of.
No they can't. They can retire with a six year pension but it would be around $16,000 a year if they wait until they're 60 to collect it. Members of Congress are on the same pension plan government employees are on.
Look it up.
Why do you expect anyone on FR to do your research?
I did. A single term senator is entitled to a pension of about $16,000 but only if they wait until 60 to collect. If they serve 30 years they get about $85,000. But your original claim was full pay after 6 years. None of them would get that.
“....and holding office was an honor instead of a power trip.”
And holding office was an HONOR and a PRIVILEGE instead of a power trip.
There.... fixed it.
Thanks, I’m in agreement.
