The suspect’s name is Steven Carrillo. He’s in his 30s, lives in Ben Lomond. He has some older relatives on Waldeberg Road where the van went, possibly his parents.
Looks like they puled the page...nothing to see here folks - he’s was an upstanding young man trying to get his life back together because....racism...

I have new information about the suspect in the death of 38-year-old Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller.
The Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as Steven Carillo of Ben Lomond. The I-Team has learned he is 32 years-old and an active duty US Air Force sergeant based out of Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield.
Sources tell me investigators found many improvised explosive devices inside Carillo’s home today, and that the FBI has taken over the case. The working theory is the sheriff’s deputies “interrupted something big that was about to happen.”
On his Facebook page May 31st, Carillo reposted a meme that said, “I’ll never let racist white people make me forget about the dope white people I know exist. I love y’all.” The post includes fist emojis of different skin tones, and both of the “whites” in the meme were crossed out. Carillo wrote, “The only race that matters, the human race.”
The Sheriff’s Department said the incident began when someone called “about a suspicious van parked off the road near Jamison Creek, Boulder Creek. The caller saw guns and bomb making materials inside the van.” Sheriff’s personnel followed the van back to Carillo’s house on Waldeberg Road in Ben Lomond. “They were ambushed with gunfire and multiple improvised explosive devices.” Sgt. Gutzwiller was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second deputy “was either shot or struck by shrapnel” from the explosives Carillo tossed at them. As Carillo drove away, authorities say he hit the deputy with his car. The Sheriff’s Department said it appears Carillo then hijacked a car, but was arrested after officers shot him. He was armed at the time.
Carillo has two children. His wife, Monika Carrillo, was an Airman 1st Class in the Air Force, but she died in an off-base hotel in South Carolina in 2018. Authorities said at the time her death was not suspicious.

Thanks - I went back and was able to access it...he seems a “bland” candidate for what he did...
They have been doing that for a very long time. I saw a video once, of a dude that was blasting away at cops, with an automatic weapon. Turns out, the dude was an an active duty Marine. They figured he infiltrated the Marines.
Goes back to the Vietnam era.
