These are really weird. Lots of things that had really boring early fifties things against each other, then later one on one, and then two good late 50s going against each other. Yuck.

The only songs on these lists that I find boring are the ones I have heard too many times--the perennial denizens of "oldies" playlists that get played over and over.

Here’s a couple of alternate recordings of Unchained Melody

The Fleetwoods' opus came out on an LP at the end of 1959. It's certainly different from Vito and the gang's uptempo East Coast doo-wop version.

Agh! No more! Stop it! The only things worse would be "Shout", "State of Shock" or Yoko Ono's "Kiss Kiss Kiss".

How about these?

Mope-Itty-Mope--The Boss Tones (1959)

I Can't Go On--Dion & the Bellmonts (1958)

Hootie Sapperticker--Barbara & the Boys (1958)
Believe it or not, this was a hit in Southern California.

Dion is releasing a new album (duets). He’s put 3 tracks on youtube so far

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puxj-1sbTeU

A few years ago they put an out album from the vault he recorded in the mid-60s. Some tracks were released but it never came out then as album.

I had not heard “Hooty Sapperticker” the short sax instrumental was good. There should have been more of that. Barbara’s voice sounds awful (and she doesn’t really sing), despite being from an era filled with sweet sounding women.

It is no wonder that “I Can’t Go On (Rosalie)” makes it on NONE of the Dion & the Belmonts collections. “Moptity Mope” actually sounds like it might have inspired the Del Shannon B-Side “The Wamboo” (”Hats Off to Larry”)

Two other novelty songs that are unlistenable are “B-B-Bird is the Word” and “Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb” (though the video is watchable because Connie Stevens is SO cute!). Both of those were big hits!

Novelty?

I want “Ape Call”...but I’m biased because that’s nostalgia for my youth, when we had that old record in our jukebox!

I agree that it was the hardest decision. I ended up choosing Personality over Mack the Knife. I'm going to go back and check everyone else’s choice and see who won.

Wheel/Belong
Prayer/Cruel
Darlin’/Volare
Mack/Personality

???
