Just ordered for my kindle. I’m very interested in this mostly ignored aspect of the Bible! Thanks so much for the post!

I watched Dale Watson live last night, it was fabulous. It felt almost like being able to go out to hear music again.

That would have made a different Untouchables episode.

I love these threads!

I’m reading “Homer & Langley” by E.L. Doctorow. It’s an historical novel about the famous Collyer brothers of NYC, hoarders extraordinaire. It’s pretty speculative and takes enormous liberties with a good deal of actual events, but well written and entertaining, if melancholy.

At night I’m slowly re-reading “God In The Dock” by C.S. Lewis. Always worth reading his work.

This morning I needed cheering up so I listened to Queen’s 1985 Live Aid concert at Wembley. Then some Dire Straits.

I’m reading The Stranger from the Sea by Winston Graham. I am also on a West Side Story soundtrack kick.

Tying two subthreads together, I've been listening to Neal Morse: Sola Scripture Live, particularly the intro song,

The Creation.

Heavy prog, and LONG, but worth every second.

I had never heard of Cady Groves until she died at 30, but I listened to a lot of her music on YouTube. It's more or less country. Some of it's very sad and some is teeny poppy. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but I liked it. Very sad life.

I watched British/French series War of the Worlds on cable. It's very loosely inspired by the Wells's novel - with the usual updatings. It looks like they are going for a Euro Walking Dead with aliens and their machines instead of zombies.

I had never heard of I'm Dying Up Here, a Showtime series about comics in LA in the Seventies, but I liked it. Of course if you don't like LA or the Seventies or comedians or Showtime or television or show business, there's much in there to hate, but the characters, the music and the recreation of the Seventies got to me.

Deep State, a show on some other cable channel about British and American spies in the Middle East and at home, started out good, but went downhill from there. Too many confusing flashbacks, too many plot holes and improbabilities. Too much anti-Americanism. You can make the CIA the villain, but once you drag in the British actors with Texas accents playing the millionaires who really control the country you've gone too far.

I liked Billions, one of the rare Showtime shows that's really good. I also liked Dublin Murders. The critics didn't. It's made out of two different mystery novels and they claimed to find plot holes and implausibilities, but I thought it worked both as a detective story and as a serious drama.

August 27th, 1990. I was in Dallas flying to San Antonio after his death.

SRV influenced my taste in music to this day.

I sat with Eric Johnson in the basement of his family’s house while he was practicing. - I was a terrible poker player and was forced to go downstairs and watch him instead of losing any more money.

I’d like to throw in what I’m watching on Netflix and Amazon Prime:

—”Longmire”— binge-watched all 6 seasons for the third time. Love the characters, this is one of the best series I’ve ever watched!

—”Goliath”—with Billy Bob Thorton as an honest but complicated attorney who takes on Goliath-level adversaries. It has a twisted/wierd Coen Brothers vibe to it. Watched the first three seasons, and there is going to be a fourth season.

—”Luther”—binge watching for a second time; watching it a second time is even better than the first time, because I’m better able to keep up with the details and fast pace. This is a GREAT BBC series, love Idris Elba!!!

For reading, I of course read a lot of stuff from Free Republic, Breitbart, Town Hall and RealClearPolitics.

By the way, the Bill Whittle podcasts for “The Cold War” and “Apollo 11” are free!

Download them from iTunes, or whatever place you get your podcasts from...The Cold War was ten episodes.

I cannot recommend these highly enough. Besides his incredibly engaging style and knowledge as both a pilot and an aviation nut, his personal style and conservatism makes them a blast to listen to.
