Is anyone else getting calls in Chinese? Originating from Chicago or from blocked source. Pleasant voice. Started after a long phone discussion about China and COVID. My friend and I both started getting calls in March. I've had 4 so far.
Not Peggy?
> often its a local number <
Its worth noting that most scammers use a phone number scrambler now. I think its called spoofing. So if they are calling, say, a 555 area code, they will present their number as coming from a 555 area code.
In reality, they are probably calling from India, that magic land of heartless phone scammers.
I like it. I might go with 29 Cove Road, Malibu
Got them last year; few or none this year.

I’ve been getting weird calls in Chinese for the past couple of months too.
I like answering "National Security Agency, Unit 2311, how may I help you sir or ma'am?"
Oh I was aware of that but when one sees a local number one is more apt to pick up than when it’s showing it from Africa or wherever.
Good opportunity to preach the gospel to them.
Keep a very loud whistle by the phone. Blow it good and loud into the phone when you get a call like that, if it's a live human.
I have experienced getting shunted to Chinese language websites after going to certain websites which apparently were expired. You go to Such & So Cattery website and see the screen change over to some Chinese website. What's up with that?
I’ve never had a call in Chinese. I usually don’t answer calls anyway If I don’t recognize the voice or number. But once in a while I will answer in Chinese and speak in Chinese till they hang up.
I’m not Chinese, but did study that fascinating language.
About a 8 to 6 weeks ago, I would get daily calls from a local number. There is a voice in English: “Chinese-American Exchange Center. A pause, the audio quality changes as if it is playing a message and then a female speaking in Chinese with a quick laughing voice. Only a few seconds. Hangs up. Almost every week day for two weeks and then they stopped.
Just got one this morning from a 212 area code.
Maybe...or possibly ebonics.

Yes, I’ve been getting the Chinese calls. My husband, who is a native speaker of Mandarin, listened to the voicemail. He says it’s a scam; they’re saying you have an unclaimed P.O. box full of money or something. Just delete them.
Neither do I...and I keep my VM full so none of their garbage gets left there. I also have an extensive Contact list, so it tells me if I know them.
昨晚我住在智选假日酒店
And I get emails from James Smith of India!
